Our Childish Dream of Changing the World
In my educational psychology class, I have discussed the school of thoughts and me and my fellow classmates were fascinated with a particular philosophy that teaches that man are inherently good.
That teaching struck me as relevant to this article I’m writing about everyone’s childish dream of making a difference. Isn’t it that when we were born, our parents told us were special and meant to become somebody important?

Stories of Failure and Success of Famous People Part 1 and 2
Aren’t we all suckers on stories of defeats because that’s when we associate ourselves with other people and that’s where we get our inspiration and courage to “get back to the ball game and finish our game.”
So here are more stories of defeats and failures of people we never thought to be losers until of course, their stories were published here.

A Spa Treat For Tired Souls
“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.” ~Jim Goodwin and Sydney J. Harris
I just got home, it’s already midnight and I just got home. I woke very early, about 5am, went to work and stressed my life out until 8pm then went to an informal business meeting with a friend and finally — the most awaited moment of my day — the trip to the Spa!
Osay, my very good friend and whom I consider the best, decided to pamper and treat ourselves. It was a totally stressful week and there’s no better way to end the day but a totally soothing and relaxing spa massage!
We went to my favorite spa somewhere in antipolo. It was quite new so the facilities were great! Not to mention the price was affordable. For only Php420.00 (plus tip), we were already entitled to splurge on these —

“Teaching Is Not A Fallback”
A Tribute to the Teachers of the World Part 3
“Of all the professions in the world, the job of the teacher has the opportunity to touch lives the most.” marikenya
To Read the Part 1 and Part 2 of this article –
Last Part of the 3-part Series on “Teaching Is Not A Fallback.” A Tribute to the Teachers of the World.
We’re getting to the climax of this story. When Holland was in his 60s, the new principal (who was an asshole since the day Holland went teaching at Kennedy High) initiated a cost-cutting measure to comply with the school board which included… the total abolition of the department of drama, arts and music!

Another unforgettable scene for me was the conversation between Holland and his co-teacher and friend who was a P.E. teacher and a football coach. He was asking Holland a favor — to teach playing an instrument and making a band member one of his quarterback players whose grades are miserable so the school would still let him play for the team. Apparently, the boy was hopeless when it comes to playing any instrument and Holland rejectedly told this to his friend who said to him:
“You’re a lousy teacher if you can’t teach a willing student.”

In our guidance and counselling subject last night, Our professor Dr. Pasco made us choose between a lecture or watching a movie (with a reflection paper after of course). Of course, since we were all tired (coming in to classes from our day jobs), we were happy for a movie breather so we chose the latter.
We bought our chichirya (junk foods) and c2 (ice trea) and settled to watch the night’s premier —Mr. Holland’s Opus — a story of a musician turned teacher who greatly affected lives of his students and made a notable impact in his community.
Richard Dreyfuss plays the of role Glenn Holland, the musician whose goal is to create his own composition so he took the job of a teacher thinking it would give him more free time to focus on making his song.

Sunset by lmc
Red-orange sky
Bites the dusk
As the sun from afar
Appears seasick, drowning
In the blue waters
But not dying
Only sleeping
For a night’s best rest.
You think he got tired shining
For your heaven’s sake?
No! He just collected
The weight of all your worries
In both his boldness
And weakness
And hid them, willingly,
In pure darkness.
(This poem is written by one of my favorite classmates and bro from my college journalism class. Thanks for sharing this poem lmc and thanks for being a friend.)

The 2008 Philippines Best Humor Blogs
Marikenya’s Toilet Humor and Her Vote
I am joining this campaign because (1) I am basically a humorous person (although marikenya.com is hardly a humor blog) and (2) I am doing this to support my brothers and sisters at WordPress Pinoys who I came to love(teary-eyed).
This Project Lafftrip Laffapalooza is brought to you by the master of humor himself — Maximus Rexx II aka Badoodles.
Ready for my votes? I am not. Nobody dared buy my vote yet and am still waiting…
Waiting…. waiting… waiting…
Shucks, seem like no one’s that interested.
Let me vote then —
Jon Cabron’s Blog. He’s hilarous. He’s one of the reasons I became addicted to WP-Forum — to read the violent or malicious reactions and musings of Jon.

Maru’s Blog. She’s hilarious. A female version of Jon perhaps and I love to taste her polvoron (of course for free!)… The last time I checked, she still offers free polvorons and a stash of the prize money for those who will vote for her.
Defpotec Blog.I saw his blog from Maru’s listing and I was automatically curious, maru’s description of her addiciton to his blog is enigmatic. I paid it a visit and though the @#*ng cheap monitor of my pc won’t allow me to get a good view of the pics in his posts, it made me happy. Hey man, my boss scolded me for laughing and talking alone!
So there! (I just mimicked this “so there…” chuva from call center people who seem so fond of this remark) If you’ll notice, I just voted three, I still have room for two more and may I remind you again, my vote is for sale.
Smile! (The vote-selling part is partly joke… but then… cge na nga, joke na lang!)

Chronicle of Stressed Yuppies and Tips on Coping
“In times of great stress or adversity, it’s always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something positive.” lee lacocca
The comment of palito king in my blog “Schools of Thoughts” puzzled me and made me think. All of us, at any time in our lives, experienced being heavily stressed.
I can feel for palito. I’m not sure if it’s just the Christmas season that makes everyone long for longer time but I definitely feel the pressure! I wish there are longer hours of each day because I can’t seem to do everything that I need to do in 24 hours. Lately, I’ve been cutting big time on my sleep just to accommodate the other activities that I need to finish.
Juggling a lot of roles and responsibilities makes one very stressed. Not to add that there are things that you really wanted to do and yet, there seem to be no time for it. Just for today, I finished editing a book which is scheduled for printing tomorrow, attended two meetings, edited more journals and collaterals, answered a lot of text messages and calls from my boss, went to school for my CPE class, tried to eat kwekwek [steamed egg fried with starch with orange coloring] for dinner during our 15-minute break then went home, but bought “balut” [steamed prematured egg] for my son who lately, I never had time to assist with his homework. And then at home, I have to write new articles for my blog because blogging is among the things that makes me happy these days.
The life of a young professional or “yuppie” is indeed stressful. I was not surprised that there seem to be an increasing concern of health problems [emotionally and physically] among young workers in call center companies. A friend of mine just lamented months back that two of his officemates died of cancer and they’re only in their early 20s. They suspect it was because of stress.
