How Was Your 2007?
Remembering the Blues and Bliss and Moving on to a New Year!
It’s my first time to celebrate New Year with my blog Marikenya.com and I wanted this first time to be truly memorable so I’m creating this 2008 New Year Blues and Bliss blog tag train.
It’s another first time for me — this is the first tagging meme I’ve initiated since I started blogging. Here’s how it works:

A New Year’s Dream: The Commandments for Peace of Mind
Few days more and it will be year 2008. I’m sure all of us have high hopes for the coming of the new year. We all wanted a better year, better lucks, better opportunities, better life.
On top of everything, my wish for this coming year is a peaceful life with my family and people I love and care about. I pray for a more serene world for all of us especially for our children.
Let us try to recreate a nonviolent world even in our small ways. Let us seek guidance from doing so by reading this wonderful Ten Commandments for Peace of Mind a friend forwarded to me via email. It’s so beautiful that I wanted to share this with everyone and this is really in tune with my New Year’s Resolution of having more Peace in my Life.

Marikenya’s Journey Into the Blogging Haven
“Slowly finding my niche in the blogging world.”
I have long ago thought of having my own blog. In fact, before having my own domain Marikenya, I was already maintaining different blogs hosted by friendster, multiply, blogger and even piczo.
It was through Neil, a good friend I met in my CPE class, that I finally decided getting my own domain (Neil paid for my domain and hosting and I still owe him dollars for that hehehe). He was very convincing and very supportive and truly knowledgeable that I know, I’d be lost in my blogging venture if not for him.

It is indeed a matter of attitude.
Productivity is doing it right.

Marikina’s Historical Places and Events
Part 5: The Chinese Pagoda
The greater part of the populace of Marikina during the mid-700s were Mestizo de Sangley (Chinese Mestizo). They came to Marikina upon the invitation of the Jesuits to help in establishing a hacienda which was named after the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro Labrador.
Similarly, the patriarch of the most illustrious clan in the town, Don Antonio Tuason, was a wealthy Chinaman from Binondo, Manila. He was believed to be Son Tua (presumably, the Sino-version of the Tuason name meaning “eldest son”) whose wealth has helped provide a battalion for the Spanish war with the British who ventured to get the Philippines from Spain.

Mid-Life Fear of a Yuppie
“Wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up all by itself.”
Last night, I was prancing and trying to get some sleep when suddenly, I thought about getting old, a reality I am hoping to avoid simply because I’m afraid of it.
At 30, I already dread about getting old. I enjoy so much my life now and can hardly imagine what my life would be when I’m what they refer to as senior citizen (in Marikina though, our oldies coined a new word for oldies — they call themselves active adults).

An Awesome Christmas Treat in Subic!
Although it may seem offbeat going to the beach in December, it was still a wonderful experience and I would say, The Beach Is Still The Best Place To Be!
Our company deviated from our annual traditional Christmas party and decided to spend it in Subic with tours, shows and swimming on the side. Needless to say, I was dissapointed because I voted for the party but the majority won and albeit the coldness of December, our pack went to Ocean Park and Camayan Beach Resort.
At first, I was really bored. We went to a park tour where we saw few animals in their cages and to an aquarium tour where I was a little amused with the colorful fishes in their tanks and while doing so, I was actually thinking of going to the soon to be opened Manila Ocean Park.
The highlights of My Subic Experience started during the Sea Lion Show where we met the adorable and highly talented (or trained) Madison and her trainor (the bonus eihihihi..) JV. Madison was really cute, she performed a lot of tricks and each time she would flash us her big smile, I wanted to hug her and take her home with me!
Our group went next to the dolphin show. It was in a hot area and we waited a long time before the show started. Finally, the three bottle-nose dolphins arrived along with Tonka, the killer whale! I was in love with Tonka, the big one! He was a playful and cheerful whale with a really cute grin, he was all grinning when he teasingly splashed with water two of our officemates who volunteered touching Tonka and the dolphins.
Our day ended at the beach, it was a beautiful beach with white sand and a lovely view of the mountains. I just slept though, I wasn’t brave enough to swim under the hot sun! After summer, I started using whitening formulas to remedy my sun-burned skin and I was not going to trade those efforts off with some hours lounging in the water.
A More Colorful Marikenya
A New Look for Living The Different Shades of Life :)
Since it’s almost Christmas and soon, the start of 2008, I decided to give my Marikenya Site a major make-over!
I designed a new header and chose a new theme for my layout (thanks to Neil for helping me every step of the way)! Since I’m such a fun-loving and dynamic type of person and well… very kikay also… I thought the new Marikenya should be colorful so here goes —

The Story Behind Marikina’s Rehiyon-Rehiyon
Marikina celebrated its 11th Cityhood Anniversary with one of its unique festivals dubbed as Rehiyon-Rehiyon .
The colorful celebration of the festival was a tribute to residents who were not taal na taga-Marikina (natives) but chose the city as their second home. This was the reason why the festivity’s theme was:
-
Iba’t-ibang Rehiyon, Iba’t-ibang Ugali, Pinagbubuklod sa Lungsod ng Marikina. (Different Regions, Different Attitudes and Cultures, Being United in the City of Marikina)
Interestingly, since Marikeños came from all over the Philippines, during the Rehiyon-Rehiyon, schools and barangays in the city prepare cultural presentations of every region in the country including the NCR. Imagine, you’ll get to see in one seating all the rich and vivid traditions of our heritage!
