Since it’s the beginning of the year, let us do some introspection and reflect what happened to us during the past year. Let us start by answering this mind puzzle…
“I am the longest and the shortest, the fastest and the slowest, I am the thing that most people waste the most and yet, they need me more than anything else. What Am I?”
It actually depends on how you look at it. But the most popular answers includes life, time and education.
Let me share with you my and my friends’ view on why we thought this adage means time —
Time is the —
LONGEST for young people wanting to get old so they’ll be able to experience life more
SHORTEST for adults who are running out of years
SHORTEST for those in a hurry
SLOWEST for those waiting in vain
MOST WASTED for those who do not use it wisely
and MOST NEEDED because it is as VALUABLE as LIFE.
A lot of us would hope that we were able to use our time appropriately and prudently. I wish that too. But we can’t just go on wishing.. and daydreaming… and fantasizing what we thought we should have done or experienced. It is truthfully sad that in life, we can only move toward and never backward. Although we have the freest will to do whatever we want, we cannot undo or delete (I love these options in my PC) our actions or at times, revert our decisions.
What is important is learning from everything that has transpired, may it be good or bad. We should be able to use our very own mistakes and triumps in enhancing our life. It is okay to be emotional, to be sentimental. Its okay to cry and be melancholic or to be mad. What is not okay is to harbor pain and anger and not stand up and move on after failures and defeats.
2007 may or may not be a good year, but like all other years in our lives, it’s past and history. We can’t do anything about it anymore except to reminisce and introspect. Let us see the past year(s) as a training ground where we perfect our selves with life’s lessons.
For you and me, my wish is a better year, a better life, and a better Us.
