Everyone knows about the story of Basilan and all other towns in Mindanao, they suffered and still suffering “deadly” fate from terrorists. I have always wanted to help in any way and I wanted to thank Ambo for calling my attention on this project to HELP BASILAN.
It is sad that after decades ago, our kapatids in the South are still experiencing reign of terrors. War, as old fashion as it may sound, is still alive in Mindanao in the present day. Let us all try to help in our little bloggers’ way.
To quote from Ambo’s Blog:
I know, this kind of post is usually ignored by many readers and bloggers. But think of this, no one could help a Filipino, but Filipinos themselves. Commit yourself. Join us. Let’s spread the word.
One fear of going to Basilan is the old belief that it is indeed a place of Abu-Sayaff. Do you know that it’s only brought by bad publicities long way back? I’ve never been to Basilan, but friends from Mindanao have told me that negative expectations about Basilan suffered not only the ecotourism, but Basilan as a whole.
The people of Basilan continue to suffer the consequences. Their dreams were altered by political insurgencies in their land and now they need us.
How can we help?
Since many of our readers are fellow bloggers, why don’t we maximize our effort and write about the project headed by Ibno Hajar Turabin, President of BIDA (Basilan Island Development Association).
The Association organized a project called, Project: H.E.L.P. Basilan
Project H.E.L.P. Basilan primary focus:
H – HEALTH
E – EDUCATION
L – LIVELIHOOD
P – PEOPLE

Technology has a lot of uses. As filipinos, let’s take advantage of it to help save and improve lives of our brothers and sisters in Basilan.
Writer’s Notes:
JP wrote this as a comment for this post… Thanks for this friend.
I happen to attend a planning seminar yesterday in CDO which was attended also by chamber reps from basilan. according to him, not only did the abu sayyaf hindered the resurgence of the place but also the reigning political leaders. ironic that he even thanked the death of youknowho leader bombed in batasan. so its not only about the abu sayyaf.
anyway, they’re recovering na naman daw. with the aid of foreign agencies i.e. GEM USAID, etc. And they will be hosting the Zamboanga Peninsula Business Conference this year. And i wish i could go there too.
and mhel, it’s wrong to use the term Mindanao in referring a particular place in Mindanao. the whole of Mindanao is not in chaos. It’s down there, southwest lang. kaya nagkakaroon ng misconception about mindanao because we often use it in general term.
