Most bloggers started with a free blog services until they get some good readership and following by writing good materials. By then, he/she would hope for a domain registration.
Truth is, having a site’s domain is quite easy, so long as you have the money to spend for it. That is the first most important thing — being able to pay for your domain name. The second one is choosing your domain name which is sometimes exasperating especially after you find out that the name you want is already taken. You also have to choose whether your extension address would be .com, .net., .ph, .mob…
There are a lot of companies now offering inexpensive domain registration which usually ranges from $5 to $15. I got mine for nine dollars. Here are more tips on choosing a name for your very first blog or site:
- Think of something unique but not too hard to spell. I made mine Marikenya, spelled in filipino instead of with ñ (marikeña) so searchers can easily type it. As much as possible, avoid hyphenated names or using special characters.
- Avoid looooong domain names. one or two words with not more than 30 characters is good enough. Remember, you will have to market your site later on and it would be helpful if your potential readers or blogger friends can easily remember you site’s name.
- Think of a name that is easy to remember, if you can think of a word with a catch-phrase or something that sounds like a popular thing, better.
