Marikina’s mood is again festive today, the annual celebration of Ka-Angkan is on the roll.
The Ka-Angkan Festival or Festival of Clans started in 1999, it has always been celebrated in April during the Founding Anniversary Week of the city. The theme of the feast: Ka-Angkan Ko Mabubuting Tao [my clan members are good people]. The festival is a tribute to natives or locals of Marikina whose oldest member of the clan lived in Marikina for more than 100 years.
I remember joining the parade some years back, it was fun because of the gimmicks of the clans like street dancing and mascots. After the parade, there was a concert at the riverbanks where the Branson cabins look-alike of every clans were set-up. In their cabins or huts, you’ll see photos and memorabilia of the clans with highlight on the photos of their oldest members as well as their history. I also enjoyed the part where the clan members invite sightseers like me for a snack and even dinner. Whoopee!
To everyone especially those clans participating in the festival today, Maligayang Ka-angkan!
*A follow-up article on Ka-Angkan will be posted also which will be written in Filipino. I would be happy to receive contributions of photos or any interesting information about the Ka-Angkan Festival for inclusion in this post. Thank you.

gaaad! it was so long. thank goodness for babywearing as i was carrying my toddler for the greater part of the time. i said i’d stay to watch at least until my clan’s (the enteng supoks) turn and wouldn’t you know, the lineup was alphabetical. so almost two hours later, we finally got to see our part in the parade and since it was already close to the end of the parade, we just decided to see the whole thing through. fun times. my back will never be the same though.

I am a Nepomuceno from Mindanao. You can only count the Nepomucenos in Mindanao and it was always a thrill to meet another Nepomuceno. In my younger years in Davao I never could have imagined that there are so many Nepomucenos in Luzon, particularly in Pampanga ( imagine how surprised I was when I saw all the listed Nepomucenos in the local phone directory)… and now, just this afternoon I met one Nepomuceno from Marikina. She told me about the angkan angkan, thus I’m checking the articles now.

hi my name is nimfa, it is my husband whose a nepomuceno, he’s from marikina, my father in-law is enteng nepomuceno. My husband told me before that they have a “pagawaan ng shoes” but it get burned I dont know the whole story. Somebody has told me before that you guys there have this parade I think every year by angkan is that true?.
Year ago when were in a mall is sta lucia mall a family is wearing a green t-shirt with printing “angkan ng mga nepomuceno” it really caught my attention because they are so proud of who they are. I ask my husband to go over them and ask if they really are nepomucenos but my husband is so ashamed so Im the one who ask they if they really nepomucenos, they said that they are and they’re from marikina. They smile at me and I told them that my husband is a nepomuceno also and his from marikina. I called my husband and they exchange pleasantries because I cannot carry the conversation due to unlimited information for the nepomucenos.
May I know who you are? Is it true that willie nep is a relative of the nepomucenos of the marikina. When other learned of my last name they ask me if I am related to paeng nepomuceno, I said I am not according to my husband because paeng is from pampanga is not from marikina is that true?.
Well Im so sorry for the long letter
Good day
Nimfa
