When I finally decided to have my very own self-hosted blog, the first thing that crossed my mind was choosing the theme of my site and the right web hosting. Unlike my free blogs, I would be paying my web host so I would have to make sure that its services would be satisfactory.
A blogger or an owner of a site may have brilliant content for his/her site and is too patient to submit to directories as well as do social media networking, it would all not matter much if the site is always down or too slow to load.
A blog’s needs is different from what an e-commerce require. The site owner should know and specify to the desired web host the features his site would need. Choosing the right web host is critical to the success of a site but there are a more factors to consider in having your self-hosted blog or site. Here are some:
- The Domain Name. Be careful in choosing your domain name. Make sure your domain name identify you or the kind of site you wanted to put up. Be wise in choosing because once you register it, there’s no changing it.
- The Web Host. The factors to consider are cost, features and customer service.
- The Theme, Template or Design and Layout. If you don’t have the budget for a website designer, just find tutorials on the web on choosing and using free templates. There are different themes for every type of site, choose the one that you think is right for your site’s theme.
- The Site Promotion. This one takes some time — submitting to search engines, exchanging links to other bloggers or friends, and joining sites like stumble upon and digg.
- The Contents. Page rank would always be about quality contents. Write good materials and hoe, you’ll be rewarded by google with a good PR.
