Life in the Eyes of a Child

“Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate people from love. It can’t take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.”

I was very surprised tonight when my son suddenly asked me: “Mama, what will we do if you die?”

I was so astounded I was silent for a while and managed to ask him back why did he ever thought of asking such question. He replied sadly that he just thought of it and wanted to know what would happen to them if I die. I was prepared for this conversation and honestly, I wasn’t able to provide my son a brilliant answer.

Do you want to be Happy or Sad?
The Guide to Living the Life You Want

Life is what we make it. Happiness is an option. Either we see the glass half-full or half-empty, it’s our choice.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

At 30, life has taught me a lot of lessons. These lessons are sometimes painful and hard to accept but I’ve learned also the best way to face it: cry it out, shrug it off, then move on to face a new life’s lesson.

Last night, i received a text message from a friend. It says: “Life is a matter of perspective, either you complain because roses have thorns or you rejoice because thorns have roses. It all depends on how you look at it.”

Resources on Web Hosting for Beginners

Everyday, more and more internet users turn into blogging to journal their lives, share their interests and eventually, to earn money. At first, new bloggers use free blog hosting services but after some time, they would clamor for their own domain which of course would lead to needing hosting services. Me and my site is an example of this trend.

For amateur and not-techy-bloggers, all these information regarding blog services, domain names and hosting would give them a headache and would provide them the impression that it is hard to be a successful blogger. It’s actually a misnomer. Believe me, I started from scratch.

Aside from having helpful and patient bloggers who gives you free advices and free tutorials, online resources like the web hosting tutorials provided by webhostingrating dot com is very helpful. This site provides extensive tips and reviews of web hosting specifications and tutorials for beginners and even noteworthy advices in choosing or even migrating to right hosting services.

The CowGirl in Me

When I was a teen, among my favorite hobby was reading books, collecting books, and trading books. I have always been the hopeless romantic type even in my youth and among my favorite reading were selections from Sweet Dreams, Sweet Valley and Mills and Boons Paperbacks.

Among my favorite settings for my love stories are farms with cowboys as leading men. Even in the Philippines, TV commercials painted cowboys as the dream lovers — big and strong, chivalrous, good horse riders… Today, I have overcome reading teeny paperbacks but not watching movies with Rodeo and farm settings and with the advent of internet, I can now go to websites like the National Finals Rodeo. NFR is the premier rodeo event championship in the United States, it is also called the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Choosing the Right Job. Part of the Series for Resources on SM Marikina Jobs Fair.

Marikina will be holding the 3rd (third) SM Marikina Jobs Fair this June. In anticipation of this jobs fair, you will find in Marikenya site tips and guides on how to win “that” SM job.

Every one dream of getting the perfect job, receiving good salary with nice benefits, and having own savings or even a checking account. First things first, you must find that job. In finding the right job, it is important that we have a clear picture of the kind of job that we wanted to get, and if that job matches our qualifications. More than that, there are other factors to consider in finding the right job for you.

  • Location. More and more Marikeños are now finding jobs within or close to Marikina. In a study conducted by the International Labor Organization in Marikina, some respondents said that they working in Makati or Ortigas area means prestige but if you will only get a salary less than 10,000 pesos, it would not be enough to compensate for the cost of transportation and other expenses like food. It is the very reason why there are a lot of applicants for SM Marikina.
  • Commute or Transportation. Accessibility of the work place is very important. Are there public transportation in the area for commuters? Would it require long commute? For those with vehicles, this factor is also very important because of the escalating price of gasoline. Not to mention that if you get to work with a vehicle, you always have to worry about parking.
  • Benefits. The good thing about call center companies is that they offer good benefits for their employees. For SM and manufacturing companies though, the sad thing is that they are into contractualization and most probably than not, do not offer medical or other employees benefits aside from SSS, Pag-ibig and Philhealth.
  • Work Environment. This does not only mean the physical environment but also the kind of people you are going to work with. In call center industries, there are also quite a number of “fall-outs” especially for employees being assigned in “graveyard shifts.”
  • Job Security. Unfortunately, for those in the rank and file (in SM, this is the term for salesladies, baggers, etc.) and in the manufacturing (factory workers), hiring are usually in five to six months basis only. It would be very hard to find a company that promise regularization after a six-month contract in these areas.
  • Opportunities for Advancement. Love companies that provide opportunities for their employees to be trained, exposed and be promoted. You may ask the interviewer if they provide for employees development.

    The Site for Shopaholics

Those who are close to me know how bad my shopping addiction is. Fortunately in the last weeks, I was able to control my urge (good enough!) to splurge because I had to enroll my son and buy him school stuff.

However, this week, I totally went overboard shopping for swimwear, lingerie, and computer accessories. Last year, when I was still an active member of a popular auction site, I was able to sell a lot of stuff but I hardly made good profit because of my online shopping sprees.

    Wanna Know If “Taga-Marikina Ka?”

I have first read this article years back when I was researching for materials for the souvenir brochure for the Ka-Angkan festival of Marikina. Thank goodness for Bands, a fellow member of MarikinaValley forum, for posting it and reminding me how good it is to publish here in Marikenya site. The article was written in Filipino and my apology to those who does not understand this language. I can’t translate it for two reasons: I don’t have the authority to do so and I’m afraid I’d alter the thoughts (or pakahulugan) of the author.

    TAGA MARIKINA KA
Sinulat ni Rodolfo S. dela Paz

source: River City Gazette Vol.II No. 1, February 20, 2000, Marikina City

Ignacio at Padre Mirasol.
