Marikenya,
Hi again! I love reading your blogs. It takes away 800 kilograms of (emotional) load off my shoulders. You see, I am a parent of two, my eldest is now an 8 year old schoolboy, and my baby is now 9 months. Recently, we have been liberated from our predicament of paying for special milk (more expensive than gold!) because we were able to shift to a much much cheaper milk without my baby having any dreadful reactions. That is a burden evaporated! My son, actually my stepson who I’ve had since he was just 2, is in Grade 2 now. He has been “diagnosed” with Mild ADHD. After the early years of complicated arrangements and emotional chaos in relation with his biological mother, I have been faced with yet another turmoil. With all the physical strain from taking care of a baby, and all the stress from daily life, everyday is a struggle. I feel like I am at the brink of breaking down everyday. Are there therapy centers which offer affordable Occupational Therapy sessions? As much as we would like to help him with therapy (which will ease the way for overcoming the ADHD), we simply cannot afford it! Are there also any support groups for parents who may be going through the same ordeal? Hope you could help. Thanks in advance!Ann
Ann, it is hard enough to be mothers of regular children. I can just imagine how it is to be a parent of a special child. Last semester, I had some units in my CPE class studying cases and approaches for teaching special children. My knowledge on this however is insufficient but it made me decide at some point to take a master’s degree on special education (SPED).
If you’re from Marikina Ann, I have heard that there are already public schools with SPED classes like the one located in Barangka or Tañong. You may want to check this out because I’m sure the tuition fee there is far less than what regular SPED schools charge. As for the support group for parents with ADHD, I haven’t heard of one yet located in the city but I promise you I will keep on searching for one and would post it back here for you.
Dear readers, please do not hesitate to provide encouragement or help to Ann by leaving feedback on this post or writing me through the contact form. To Ann, you’re very tough, I commend you for that. Please hang in there.

My newphew was diagnosed with mild ADHD in his early teens. He is doing quite well now. He’s in college in the US. I understand ADHD meds has to be well matched with the child.
I wonder if Ann is in touch with the ADHD group in the Philippines.
