I Waited… And The Mummy Returned.

I have been a Brendan Fraser fan since the days of the California Man and With Honors. I have watched most of his movies and loved them. I especially liked the The Mummy Series and I impatiently waited for the third one. This weekend, my husband and I prepared for our movie date with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Part III), by watching in DVD the previous episodes.

I cooked the popcorns and poured the juice, hubby adjusted the home theater lighting and switched the player on, then we settled cozily side by side in the sofa. The Mummy reruns did not bore us one bit, not even the fact that we have watched it for the nth time already.

We went to the movie in high spirits. Not even some of the bad reviews of the Mummy III affected our beliefs that it is going to be another entertaining and unforgettable film. I guess I wasn’t prepared to being a little disappointed. It started when I saw the new leading lady, Maria Bello replacing the truly beautiful Rachel Weisz, I was disappointed. Rachel did very well in the two episodes and I need to remind myself every time Maria comes in that she is now “Evelyn,” she looks old for Brendan too.

I guess I had enough of Chinese Movies and for that reason, I did not like much Mummy 3. I was looking forward to more ancient stories from Egypt and it was quite a downer that it looked like a modern Jet Li and Jackie Chan movie after all. Brendan, as always, was a brilliant actor. It was a good movie, still worth watching but not as big as I thought it would be.
