On September 19, a Jobs Fair for Marikenyos will again be held. I was told by an organizer from a barangay in District 2 that among the weaknesses they observed with applicants in their jobs fair was the way they treat and write their resumes. Many of the resumes were handed in a mess and poorly written.
Since resumes are very important part of the application process, let me help you prepare and hand it over with success.

GUIDES IN WRITING THAT WINNING RESUME
1. A resume should look like a resume, not a computer printed biodata. Whatever your academic background is, you can prepare a good looking and professional resume. Do not just copy the format of a template biodata from a school supply or grocery.
2. Your resume need not be too lengthy nor too short. It should be the right length containing the best and important information about you that would woo future employer. A one page resume is not enough to make an impressive impression nor a 10-page resume that may make the reader bored or sleepy.
3. Organize your resume and make it easy to read. An effective resume starts with your accomplishments and credentials that would make an impression to the employer that you can be considered or even qualified for the job. If you have an impressive employment background, start with it. Don’t forget to write your accomplishments in your work or your duties and responsibilities. Next would be your academic background and other academic achievements. Highlight your special skills and qualifications that would convince the employer you’re the one for the job!
4. Proofread your resume. Make sure there are no typographical errors, wrong spelling, or grammatical errors in it. If you’re not very sure of your command in English, let a friend or family check it for you.
5. Do not put information that are not relevant to the position you are applying for. For instance, you need not put your affiliation to organizations nor your hobbies that would not backup your application in that company.
6. Very basic and important: take care of your resume. Put in a folder, do not fold it, present it neatly and crumple-free. You are your resume. How it look like represents you.
