An Accolade from a Reader

Let me express once again my sincerest gratitude for everyone who passes by Marikenya.com and most especially to those who take time sending messages to yours truly. These letters inspires me to make this site better and better as it age.

Here is another email I got from a reader, Riza, a Filipina in the U.S. –

Hi! I am a website owner in the USA. I was searching for blogs and websites from the Philippines by Filipinos and I came upon your website.

I highly appreciate what you are doing for the town of Marikina, and for the Philippines as well.
I have seen so many Filipino blogs that are useless and are cheap imitations of western blogs.
Keep up the good work, promote your town, and in so doing, the Philippines also. Please emphasize more on our positive aspects, not on hanging our dirty linen online, for the whole world to see and know!

Be proud that you/we are Filipino! MABUHAY TAYONG LAHAT!

Riza

Online Store Affiliate Marketing Strategy for Bloggers

Bloggers are always on the lookout for prospects on monetizing blogs. Among the most popular is through affiliate advertising. One of the strategy of affiliate marketing companies is employing blog site owners to display in their blogs the products of services of their advertisers. By so doing, the blogger or the publisher earns from the advertiser which will pay through the affiliate marketing company.

There are three ways to earn from affiliate marketing:(1) via cost per impression (CPI); (2) through pay-per-click advertising (or cost per click, CPC); and (3) per sale transaction. The first one is the easiest to generate if you have a good traffic, every generated impression is paid for but the hitch is the pay is usually small for this scheme, usually some $.0+++ for every hundred impression. Pay-per-click advertising works a little harder for the publisher since he/she will be paid depending on the number of visits to the advertisers’ site using the link from his/her blog but the pay is better than the CPI. The third one targets direct sales and harder to promote for the publisher but the pay is the best. Usually, the publisher gets a certain percentage based on the amount of the sold product(s).

If you are interested in becoming an affiliate publisher and run stores of advertisers in your site, try the Pepperjam Store Builder. With Pepperjam, you can easily create network product feeds from Pepperjam Network Advertisers which includes Ebay, DKNY, Sesame Street, and New Line Cinema among others. You may also choose the color of the product background and font display to suit the layout of your blog.

Wordless Wednesday: The Fountain at the Marikina Cityhood Park

The Marikina Cityhood Park

Nightshot of the Marikina Cityhood Park along Sumulong Avenue, Sto. Nino, Marikina City. Taken by my good friend Engr. Elbert Malonzo.

The light from the lamp post behind the fountain illuminates it creating an illusion of a bright light on top of the fountain. It’s a really pretty photo. Sorry for not staying wordless. :)

A Stressful Night at the Hospital

Yesterday was very stressful day for me. I was invited to attend a general assembly and farewell party of a workers’ group in the city but at the last minute, I had to bring a good friend to my OB-Gyne at the Sta. Monica Hospital whose suffering from major discomforts.

Along the way, I received a text message from my nanay which made me nervous. She said she was brought to the hospital by a co-worker because of massive palpitation. My mom has been suffering from hypertension for a long time now and is taking medicines for maintenance. When I reached the hospital, the nurse informed me my mom’s blood pressure shot up to 190/110 which is really high. I had to run to the drugstore to buy her medicines and to the canteen to buy pineapple juice. I walked to the drugstore amidst the heavy rain without the comfort of an umbrella. The doctor advised that in order for her BP to go down, she needs to urinate as much as she can.

Christmas Countdown

Fifty eight (58) more days to go before Christmas! Although the weather is quite unpredictable, as in very hot during the night and I can hardly feel the Christmas breeze, I can still feel the spirit of this season warming me up every morning.

Christmas has always done that to me. I always feel happy just thinking about this special day. Once the months of “Ber” early set in, I start panicking about Christmas presents and menus for the noche buena. Today, I pulled my special notebook from my drawer and started making my Christmas list.

A Welcome Treat from Good Friends

It was quite a week. My best friend Rizza whom I fondly call Pops celebrated her birthday. I asked her to spend her evening with me so we can stay together during her special day. Before our date, I made a quick dash to the mall to pick a really cute bag as a gift for her. At 6pm, we headed to SM Marikina.

Old Spaghetti House at SM Marikina

We decided to have our dinner at the Old Spaghetti House. I knew this restaurant way back in college because I used to pass by its branch in Aurora almost every day going to school. It was both our first time to eat at the Old Spaghetti House. We met the manager/proprietor of the store while having a hard time deciding what to order who in turn offered good suggestions on what to choose. We ordered their popular seafood alfredo and their best-selling american baked spareribs. Pops loved the pasta and and I was all praised after I tasted the spareribs. I also enjoyed their strawberry shake which was recommended by their friendly food attendant.

    Fashion Alert for Shopping Lovers

There are good things in life that I always enjoy and being a self-confessed shopping addict, among on top of these is of course, shopping. The last weeks was quite stressful at work and at home. The effect of course is not too good because I went ga-ga again over my favorite stress reliever — visiting boutiques and splurging on every fashionable item that catches my fancy.

One of my favorite fashion shop is located at Marikina Blue Wave Mall, the Hot Stuff. I love the clothes, the earrings, the watches and almost all stuff on sale there. Each time I come to the this mall, I make it a point to make a quick, and sometimes, long trip to my fave boutique. Going to Hot Stuff has been a consistent habit for me, no wonder the proprietor — the friendly and pretty Nora, has become a good friend of mine.
