I was very intrigued by the number and kinds of feedbacks my posts on Supermarket Tripping created. Looks like many of this site’s readers are mommies and women who always scout for good supermarkets to shop from.
In that case, we are on the same boat. I am a wise shopper when it comes to buying our groceries and I always go around this city and neighboring towns just to see which store provides better prices, products and services.
Join me in reviewing these featured supermarkets so we can see which ones worth visiting. First stop: Puregold. This popular px shop just opened this December and is along J.P. Rizal St. in San Mateo, Rizal. I used to look at it during construction when going to Budgetlane, one of my favorite groceries. I used to marvel at how big Puregold would be and all those time, I was thinking it would be just like its popular branch in Pampanga. More like Shopwise where you’d find everything you need inside the store.

I even recommended it to a friend who was looking for televisions with tv stands. When they get there, they were quite disappointed with the limited array of unbranded appliances available.
My family went to see the store ourselves. Puregold was relatively small. At the entrance, there’s a food court with variety of food stores like a pizza house and my favorite Fruitas stand. That’s wonderful for me because our family loves eating.
Inside, there’s a variety of (cheap) clothing apparel available and cute but quite expensive clothing and other products for babies. We bought a pair of shoes for a friend’s tote. My son liked their basket with tires and he used it go around the store. Many kids played with those cute baskets and my son enjoyed it. Their grocery line are okay but not fully packed. I found myself looking for some local brands of biscuits and a brand of condensada which were all unavailable.
While eating junk foods and drinking yakult while shopping, we were approached by a saleslady who told us that eating and drinking is not allowed in the store. I was so shocked! It was the first store we visited with these kind of rules. I actually think that what we’re doing is advantageous for groceries, the reason they never impose those rules in the first place. We stopped eating anyway but Puregold scored negatively in my book after that.
It has a small wet shop which I believe is better than Budgetlane’s because they sell fresh products but not a good one for those who love delis.
Their price is not that expensive but my sister and I agree that Budgetlane’s prices are still lower. The store is new so the facilities are okay.
