The Birthday Trip

This blog was in hiatus in the last days because the author went on a nice birthday trip.

Together with my family and my good friends, my birthday was spent in a cool, as in literally cold, place – Baguio. Although I went to this place some months back, I still felt excited because it would be our first family trip to Baguio which my son wanted badly to go to.

We set off early, at past 4AM, we were already off the road and traversing the Kennon Road by 9AM. By that time, we were all in high spirit and shouting on top of our lungs “Baguiooooo, here we come!!!”

My son was wide-eyed, mum, but very excited. He posed for his first horse riding photo with glee. We went to Botanical Garden and to the Mansion, then off to Session Road for lunch. We had a hard time finding the Good Taste Restaurant but since it’s highly recommended, we circled the session road a few more times until we decided to walk on foot so our search would be easier. When we finally did, we ordered a bowl of fried rice, buttered chicken, pancit canton, and beef with broccoli plus two giant coke liters! We were so shocked when we realized that our lunch would serve as our dinner too because the servings were too many for our consumption even though we were immensely hungry. The food was great and the price, inexpensive! This restaurant is highly recommended.

We then decided it’s time to look for the pension house where we will stay for the rest of our Baguio trip. A friend recommended the Dauz Pension House. It was located near SM Baguio and close to the session road. With two large beds and a pullout plus a TV set, the five of us were comfortable in the clean and orderly room atop the third floor of the cute Dauz abode. With a hallway that has a small dining with a lavatory and a clean comfort room with hot shower, we were very happy with our stay at Dauz all at just P1,500 per day. It was not comparative to a dream Branson residence but considering our budget for a place, it was perfect. I have long ago hoped for a birthday trip to Branson, Missouri, considered as the Live Music Capital of the World. My family would enjoy this place known so much for fun and entertainment — concerts, amusement parks, over 70 shows and attractions to choose from. Tourists also have options for vacation packages which already includes accommodation for as low as $457. Maybe in my next birthday, someone who loves me enough would give me a Branson trip for a gift. :)

After unpacking our things and rested for a couple of hours, we went roaming. Before 9PM, we were eating our leftover Good Taste foodies and comfortable tucked in our beds after. By 7AM, we’re already at the market fishing for fresh veggies and fruits. Unfortunately, I was almost victimized by a pickpocket. A good-natured market boy saved me from the ordeal when he approached me to tell me that a guy has been stalking me and I should be careful. We hastily left the market after that.

We then went to the Good Sheperd’s convent (I’ll never leave Baguio without stashing their famous ube jam) and headed after to Mines View Park where great arrays of souvenirs await tourists. After buying identical shirts for my son, my husband, and me, I’m all set to going home. Beside that small incident, everything about my birthday trip were wonderful.

For this, I am thanking my good friends Rizza and Rodel and my whole sweet family for making my birthday truly memorable. :)
