Are you into photography? Whether you are a professional or an amateur photographer, you are eligible to join the Mukha ng Bayani Photo Contest. This is a project of the City Government of Marikina, through the Center for Excellence, in partnership with the Marikina Digital Photographers Club (MDPC).

The theme of the photo competition is “Capture Acts of Heroism in Present Times.”

The good news is that it is open to everyone who can take photos, whether you are from Marikina or not.

Here are the contest mechanics:

1. Contest is open to both professionals and amateurs. Participants must fill up an application form which can be downloaded at www.marikina.gov.ph, click here to go to the site.
2. Categories with corresponding prizes:
… A. Professional: 1st 20K, 2nd 15K, 3rd 10K plus trophy.
… B. Amateur: 1st 15K, 2nd 10K, 3rd 5K plus trophy.
… There will be 5 honorable mention per category with certificates.
3. Photos must be taken within the contest period and any area in the Philippines where contemporary acts of heroism are depicted.
4. Basic Digital Photo Editing, meaning levels, exposure, saturation, and minimal sharpening, is allowed. However, no complete altering of the photo/subject, which means, no fake blurs, no HDR, no dropping one subject into a different background and the like. Converting to B&W and selective color is ok.
5. Duration of contest if from August 7, 2009 to November 16, 2009.
6. Deadline for submission of entries is 5:00 PM of November 16, 2009.
7. All entries must be submitted with a title.
8. A participant may submit a maximum of 3 entries in any category he/she is participating.
9. All entries submitted shall be considered property of the organizing body and may be used for future projects/activities. However, the photographer’s name shall be acknowledged/written whenever the image is used.
10. By joining the contest, the photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the participants. The entrant acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights and/or rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right to claim or interest in the photograph.
11. Entries must be submitted both on hardcopy and soft copy with the following specifications:
… a. Soft copy: original format on JPEG or RAW wit EXIF, Hard copy: 8″x12″ borderless
… b. Title: Maximum of 50 characters
… c. Filename format: lastname.first name.title (ex. DelaCruz.Juan.Kabayanihan)
12. Criteria for Judging: 40% relevance to the theme, 20% composition, 20% technical excellence, 20% creativity
13. Judges decision is final.
Entries can be submitted by mail or directly handed to Center for Excellence (CENTEX), 2/F City Hall, Shoe Avenue, Brgy. Sta. Elena, Marikina City 1800.
