Need Help on Child Sleeping Problem

May I solicit suggestions/recommendations on how to remedy our child’s poor sleeping habits?

My 7-year-old boy has been having problems sleeping early. Not that he actually treat this as a problem because he obviously enjoys sleeping very late. Just like any child, my son likes staying up late and we allow him this sleeping preference on weekends when he doesn’t need to wake up early for school.

However, he became fond of the late sleeping habits and he even applies it on weekdays now. What troubles us is that his eyes already show the strain from sleeping late and the dermatologist said sleeping late is among the factors for skin asthma which attacked him lately.

In the past, we already resolved to using natural sleep aid which was prescribed by the doctor to help him sleep early but we stopped using it since we’re thinking he’s just a child and it may have adverse effects on him.

For parents and medical experts out there, help please!

if i didn’t know i didn’t write this, i’d think i wrote this except that my child is a girl :-) and yes, she also has skin asthma (which i suspect may also be caused by marikina’s still dusty air from dried up ondoy mud).

it is usually difficult to make her sleep when she’s been watching tv and using the computer most of the day. what i do is put my foot down and give a definite deadline for her to brush her teeth, shower and fix her school and/or swim stuff. then after prayers, i apply lotion on her skin while reading a story. by the time the story ends, she’s either sleeping or sleepy.

it will require work but it is a way to form an early(-ish) sleeping habit.

    hope this helps.

Jana… i’d say ur indeed a good mom and it’s an honor for me to be given an advice by someone like you who knows responsible parenting. it’s sad we’re both parents of children with skin asthma, hope ur child is already better, mine’s still with white spots but the itching is gone thank god!

ur suggestion about early sleeping habits is indeed an effective one. i received the same recommendation and has been trying it out for days. it caused me problems though since i had to switch the tv and pc off too so i can put my child to sleep. that means i have to look at the ceiling for hours while waiting for him to sleep and once he is, i can go back to watching tv or working on my pc, talk about sacrifices! nevertheless, parenting is all worth it in the end. thank you so much and i salute you for being a good parent!
