Good news to Marikenyos! As a means of providing economic support, especially to those victimized by Ondoy, the City Government of Marikina is offering 50% discount for payment of real property tax (RPT) from today until June 30, 2010.

The city council of Marikina initiated this discount through Ordinance No. 162 series of 2009. To pay for your RPT, simply bring the copy of your statement of account (SOA) to the city treasury office located at the ground floor of Marikina City Hall. Happy 2010! ![]()

While I appreciate the 50% discount, won’t this affect the annual budget of the city? I wonder why the timing seems to be during election period. Sounds really like a desperate move by those in power to remain there at all cost… even at the expense of the city’s future this year!!

Whether this 50% off on Real Property Taxes is political gimmickry or an honest-to-goodness sympathetic courtesy of the City Government to alleviate the economic sufferings of Marikenos affected by the recent calamity… To entertain an iota of doubt about half of the waived revenues
will affect the City Budget..is a total fantasy.
They don’t advocate the cityhood for nothing.. where effective and excessive taxation is bound to happen. So, a 50% give away won’t even cause a dent of the City’s Fiscal responsibility
