Suggestion for the Best Brand of LCD TV

Last night, I went LCD television hunting with some friends. It seem today, people already opt to buy LCDs instead of the then fad television with flat screens. LCD TVs are now cheaper and more affordable than some years ago where a small LCD will cost you around forty thousand pesos and up.

Today, at roughly twenty five thousand pesos, you can already get good looking 29 inches up LCD television for less than thirty thousand pesos. If you’re even luckier, handsome and sturdy tv stands may even be part of the promo which you may get for a discount or even for free. We got our flat screen TV bundled with television stand (not very stable but will do) and a discounted DVD player.

Of course, if you wanted branded LCD tvs, the price will be higher than that of unbranded televisions made in China, Taiwan or Korea. To help my friend decide which LCD television to buy, I’m soliciting suggestions on the good brand of LCDs which are a bit inexpensive than the known ones like Sony. Please provide suggestions by commenting below. Thanks!

Don’t buy yet, wait a little while.
Prices of electronics drop during off-peak seasons (mid-year). this is the time when people are actually spending on things other than electronics like vacations, tuition fees, back-to-school shopping.
Besides, the 2008 global financial crisis have caused the demand for electronics to drop resulting in retailers in most countries to mark-down their price tags.
If your friend is into trendy stuff, she might like the new LG borderless TV (not so sure if it’s already available in the country). LED TVs are also predicted to be a hit since they offer a different view and consume less electricity.
Some appliance stores offer bundling, this is when most inter-related items are sold at discounted package price. Examples are LCD tv with home theater system or LCD with DVD player.

I don’t practice brand loyalty in my purchases so I really can’t recommend any specific brand to buy. But I can give some points to consider:
    1. Data adaptabilty – most new TVs are designed to accommodate USB and/lor MP4 players. This feature eliminates the need for a separate music player since you can just download audio or video files and play it on your TV. USB slots can also read .jpeg files so your TV can also read images, this is perfect for parties and you want a digital photo frame to display pictures.
    2. Sound – some TV sets has good sound quality that they no longer need additional speakers when you watch movies.
    3. After-sales service – are the service centers near where you live? What’s the coverage of your warranty?
    4. Fair trade – does the company which makes the TV practices fair trade? Meaning do they pay their workers adequately and provide them with good working environments? How much is their carbon footprint (some sort of harmful environmental waste companies produce).
    5. Remote control – one of my top concerns specialy if you switch channels frequently. Does the remote also has additional features such as instant playback, zoom etc.

Finally, when buying a TV, test it beside other TV units to compare color rendition and picture quality. There are TVs which are the same make and model but the display quality differs. Also, always ask for a discount. Appliance stores give small discounts or free items specially if you pay in cash.
if you already have an LCD, take care of it by not placing too near the wall, it should have some air space around it to avoid overheating.
Try the bigger, freestanding appliance stores where there are a lot of brands and models to choose from.

    P.S.
I went to the photography workshop after reading it here in your blog. it was really informative and fun, I just hope more people knew about it. The participants were not even able to fill 1/3 of the venue’s capacity. Most participants were not even Marikina residents. I do hope that next time, the MCTTPO will release publicity early on, so that more people can find out about it. I’m sure many people will grab the opportunity. ^_^
