Opening of Marikina Footwear and Leathergoods Trade Fair

In this past article, I have briefly discussed the current situation of Marikina shoe industry and my invitation to shoe manufacturers all over the city to provide me their contact information so I can create a directory or listing of footwear and leathergood suppliers and manufacturers which I can promote in this site. Since last year, I have been receiving numerous emails from readers all over the country and even from abroad requesting me to recommend  shoe companies they can get in touch with for possible business partnership. The potential of reviving the Marikina’s past premier industry is exciting to me and I am hoping this site can do something to help.

The Marikina City Government is serious in its efforts in assisting the shoe industry regain its lost glory, both for economic and cultural reasons. It is partnering with players from big and small footwear companies, to plan and carry out programs for the revitalization of the shoe industry. Their first project, the establishment of the new Marikina Trade Fair featuring both footwear and leathergoods with opening ceremonies today, October 22. The trade fair is located at the ground floor of the Marikina Sports Park along Mc Donalds Avenue, Sta. Elena.

The trade fair will showcase original and quality footwear and leathergood products from Marikina. At least now, when tourists go to our city  with the hope of buying our Marikina-made shoes, we can now usher them to one place — the trade fair.

Let’s see how far these efforts will go and if it will really help reposition Marikina as the Philippine’s shoe capital.
