Tsunami Warning Issued in Philippine Provinces

Update: The tsunami alert level is already no. 2 in the 19 provinces in the Philippines as per NDRMMC.

The world is still in the state of shock as an 8.9 magnitude earthquake just hit Japan and shortly after, a major tsunami that swept boats card, buildings and everything that get near it. Expecting and preparing for the worst to come, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) already issued a tsunami warning to the 19 provinces along the coastal areas fronting the Pacific Ocean. These are:

• Batanes Group of Islands
• Cagayan
• Ilocos Norte
• Isabela
• Quezon
• Aurora
• Camarines Norte
• Camarines Sur
• Albay
• Catanduanes
• Sorsogon
• Northern Samar
• Eastern Samar
• Leyte
• Southern Leyte
• Surigao del Norte
• Surigao del Sur
• Davao Oriental
• Davao del Sur

There are no plans for evacuations yet in said provinces but local folks are advised to be vigilant and ready in case an evacuation order is issued. Current alert level for tsunami in the Philippines is one (1).

Along with our prayers for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the safety of our family and friends in said country, let us also pray for the tsunami to already halt and not touch ground in the Philippine coast.
