It was a few years back that I was invited to facilitate a teambuilding seminar which venue was at the Kuhala Bay Resort in Cardona Rizal. This year, the same group invited me to facilitate a different training, but still in Kuhala Bay.
The resort nestle on top of a hill overlooking the Laguna bay. Owned by media personality Joe Taruc, the place was well maintained when I first went there. I loved the nature view surrounding the resort and thoroughly enjoyed the hot and bubbly jacuzzi beside the large pool where I spent the night with a fellow facilitator. Our room with double bunk beds was not impressive at all. It was cramp and adorned with simple and economical looking furniture.
I can’t complain about the simplicity of the rooms though. Forming part of Kuhala Bay’s charm is the fact that cost of stay in the place is cheap which makes it a good venue for seminars and retreats as it is only a couple of hours drive from Metro Manila.
This year’s trip to Kuhala wasn’t good as the first one though. Let me share why.
First, the resort which I happened to forget already how to get to, was so hard to find! The resort people actually emailed me the map but we found it to be very unreliable. We took three wrong turns because of the map’s inadequacy coupled with “missing” resort signages or markers which suppose to guide lost travelers.
Second, the resort is not as clean and fine-looking as I remember it, particularly the conference room and the comfort rooms. While the resort management decided to expand and add a new wing, I think they also cut on cost which I think affected the maintenance of the place.
Third, the aircon in our cramp room containing three double-deck beds, is not enough to cool the area. I managed to sleep somehow though.
Final verdict — if you want an inexpensive getaway from the hassle and bustle of the city, a nature trip to Kuhala is good for the soul. If you are expecting fine accommodations and is critical about facilities, don’t go there.
