June 20 is a Special, Non-working Holiday

Finally, a holiday that falls on a weekday. Malacanang Palace issued Proclamation No. 154 declaring Monday, June 20, 2011 as Special, Non-working holiday in the Philippines.

The holiday is a tribute to the 150th birth anniversary of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal which falls on a Sunday, June 19. National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) requested that the holiday be moved Monday, June 20, to give Filipinos opportunity to celebrate the heroism of Rizal with appropriate ceremonies.
