On top of my travel destination list is the Puerto Princesa Underground River of Palawan, Philippines. This unique nature’s wonder is a pride not only for Palawanons but for Filipinos all over the world as well. A nation’s pride that we should not keep to ourselves, a heritage that Pinoys should flaunt to the world.
Palawan’s underground river, named “Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park” or PPSRNP is one of the most important and most popular biodiversity conservation areas of the country and is recognized by UNESCO as part of their list of natural world heritage sites.
As stated in the puerto-undergroundriver website:
“It features a spectacular limestone or karst landscape that contains an 8.2 km long underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it flows directly into the sea, and the lower half portion of the river is brackish and subject to tidal influence. The area also represents significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. It contains a full mountain to the sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia.”
It’s about time it receives international recognition and appreciation. As inscripted by UNESCO, Puerto Princesa Underground River is a site with exceptional and unviersal value that that deserves to be protected for the benefit of all humanity. Let’s support and help our very own Puerto Princesa Underground River to become part of the “wonders of the world.”
