While I do not have a good singing voice (admittedly), I’m a music lover (loves singing, too!) and recognizes musical talents. For t his reason, I have developed fascination over foreign television shows featuring extraordinary talented but raw singers vying for a particular title. My favorites are “American Idol,” which I have been closely watching for three (3) years already, and “The Voice” which I have just recently followed.

In watching these singing competitions, I am concerned about who the judges, critics or voice coaches are. I believe these personalities may make or break the show. They should be credible, very popular, and truly brilliant in spotting the weaknesses and strengths of both the singing voice and the performance of a contestant.  For this reason, I have shifted my addiction from American Idol (AI) to The Voice. For years, AI have made it on top of America’s most favorite voice talent search and I believe it’s because of the personality and expertise of one of the judges, Simon Cowell. Simon’s was both hated and well-loved for his rude, blunt but straightforward and honest criticisms and retorts. I really miss him as technical judge with the ability to provide really helpful feedbacks and insights on how a contestant can do better with his/her singing and performance. Personally, I believed that the new judges, singing legends Jennifer Lopez and Steve Tyler, despite their breathtaking appearances, were not much help in terms of providing appropriate feedbacks  with regard the singing abilities of AI hopefuls. Only Randy Jackson seems to know how to critic well.

Because of that, I am turning to The Voice as my new favorite TV singing competition. I love the selection of their voice coaches which include Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton.  Shelton is a handsome county music artist who speaks with the British accent. Everyone knows the “Genie in a Bottle” superstar, Christina Aguilera. Cee Lo is a singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer and actor. Of all, Adam or Maroon 5 is my absolute favorite. The hunk, gorgeous Adam who sings beautifully and can handle very well any warwick  bass guitar. As a voice coach, I am amazed at his ability to spot a voice talent immediately after hearing just a few lines of his/her song. His judgment as a voice coach is already proven too as last season’s winner of The Voice  came from his team.

What about you? Are you a follower of a voice talent search too? Which one do you like best?
