During the last weeks, I have been reflecting about life. I have revisited my thoughts on marriage, relationship, death, and my faith. This was triggered by the death of my brother-in-law who was just in his mid-40s and was enjoying a great life as a career person and family man.

From his death, our family learned about losses that will never be replaced; deep sadness for losing a great son, husband, father, brother, friend, and in my case, brother-in-law. Fortunately for me, I have decided to become a Christian sometime before his passing. With this comes my different beliefs on death as I see it now as a welcome event of going back to our Creator; as a truth we should prepare ourselves for by enriching our spirituality; and as a reality that should make us realize how short life is and we should live it according to God’s will. These realizations made me thankful (again and again) that I still live, love my life, and appreciate more the people who matter to me.

The retold stories of the wife of my brother-in-law on their relationship and the challenges they faced in their marriage made me realized I still have time in my hands to work on my own. Life is short and what little time I have, I should put in good use — that is to love and to show kindness and compassion.

My marital life is not perfect but my love is. Hubby is as wonderful as he can be and I know he is trying very hard to be a good husband. We are trying hard to make it work and I know now it’s what matters. Although material things are not enough to show how much I care and love, unique anniversary gifts may be able to remind him he still means the world to me. He loves showing off anything I give him, whatever the cost.

Being one in God renewed my love and inspiration for life, my family and everybody else I am meeting on a daily basis. It’s inspiring to love unconditionally this way. It’s liberating. My prayer is for God to bless my heart more so I can continue my quest in becoming a good person.
