Technology has indeed changed the lifestyle of many people. I remember a tweet by a famous showbiz and fashion personality, Tim Yap, saying: “Guess I am attached to my gadgets. Me time became me with my gadgets alone time.” What can I say but, same here!

More and more youngsters and even adults are becoming attached to technological gadgets — mobile phones, gaming consoles, computers of different kinds (laptops and netbooks, tablet PCs), music players, hi-definition video players, and other electronics not known to ordinary people. This attachment turns to dependency which may translate to lifestyle change.

To hit the point, let me describe how technology changed our family’s weekend bonding time. In the past, we used to spend  the weekend by going to a park or playing sports or scouting for a new eating hangout. The last weeks, we just stay at home fixated with different types of gadgets: me with my latest Android phone, my husband with the netbook, and my little boy with the iPad. One of our sweet moments would be one of us playing a game on a gadget (like CSR racing for iPad) and the rest hovering around making comments and trying to influence the gamer how to race.

As for me, being a book lover and a reading fanatic, my gadgets always become ebook readers. They contain reading materials I love and intend to read whenever I have time like during a long travel or waiting for an appointment or getting bored in a senseless meeting. My traditional book reading habit has evolved into ebook reading. Some advantages? Ebooks are cheaper, they cost very little compared to the printed books they save physical space,  as my regular books occupy a good portion of our house but my ebooks are simply stored in my memory card.

What about you? Did you have any lifestyle change because of technology?

  1. Science and technology may have worked their wonders in the modern world but somehow not enough in bringing about lasting happiness, overcoming poverty, or achieving something loftier – -establishing or restoring peace.

  2. mhel says:

true… although it has bridged diversity, specifically geographical diversity, which is really helpful in developing relationships.
