All over the Philippines now, you can feel and see the political tension building. The 2013 election is fast approaching and political candidates, as early as now are already trying to make waves through different campaign stratagems.

The parody of politics — campaign strategies  depends  on the monetary capacity of the politicos. If the campaigner is supported ‘generously’ by the politician, the strategy can go as expensive as television ads in the guise of infomercials or advocacy campaigns. If the politician is not moneyed, the strategies will concentrate on going down to the grassroots (communities) armed with basic election campaign paraphernalia such as banners and fliers.

Election period in the Philippines is as colorful as festivals. The streets are decorated with ‘banderitas’ showing the face of candidates, walls are painted with names or embellished with posters, campaigners line up the streets and even go as bold as come inside houses dressed in campaign custom tee shirts. Caucuses are always entertaining with political candidates bringing in some entertainment (dancers, singers, clowns, etc.) and food (a must!) so people would stay until they deliver their campaign spiels.

Parody in politics in the Philippines is… What do you think?
