To encourage my students to look into entrepreneurship as an option versus employment, I make them create a business plan for their final requirements. I was not surprised that many of them actually thought of a printing business. Why? They’re motivated with the need for printing jobs relative to the election next year, 2013.

Why not? Informal campaigning (because it’s not yet campaign period) of the wanna-be electoral candidates have started already using tri-media and through other gimmicks such as distributions of promotional umbrellas (very useful this season!), t-shirts, fans, and other novelty items. Another gimmick is attending occasions, from birthdays to weddings and most especially, funerals, to show personal concern and care.

Politicking in the Philippines has become both an art and a science. One should be skillful in masterminding, implementing and  managing an electoral campaign or the chances of winning will be slim.
