A Thought on Cooperatives
For two days, I have attended a seminar on cooperative management for our company’s employees which I am member of two committees — election and audit. My first learning, although it seem my co-members love putting me in every committees, I am actually violating the rule which states a member can only be part of just one committee or hold one position in the cooperative. Success Tip: Maintaining a Simple Lifestyle
Whenever I handle seminars for college students, I would hear students saying they wanted to get rich. The question is what concrete actions are you taking to make this dream a reality.
In discussing success, I am one of the thousands, or probably millions, who believe that the third richest man in the world, Warren Buffet, is a perfect study. I first heard about Buffet some four years ago. He was at that time a very rich man already, second to Bill Gates who was then the richest man in the World. Today, Buffet is the third richest man and Gates is behind him being fourth in the list.
What struck me at that time was Buffet’s advice to young people. He said: “do not use credit cards.” Live only within your means, pay for your purchases in cash and do not be tempt to “swipe” for products or services you cannot afford. This way, you will not be buried deep in debt. I wish I’ve heard of these wise words from Warren Buffet before I activated and used my first credit card in 2002.

Garage Sale Free Advertisement at Marikenya.com
When I was a kid, I remember going to garage sales and patiently looking out for good stuff on sale on the seller’s garage floor.
I love garage sales! I love finding bargain stuff, mostly books and educational thingies when I was a child. I love the fact that my nanay would give me some twenty bucks before I ransack a garage sale and would go home happy with small stuff I was able to purchase with my meager shopping money.
With this, I’d like to invite anyone from Marikina and nearby places who would recently hold their garage sales to promote it in this website absolutely for FREE! Who knows, if its closer, I can even drop by and shop on your very own garage! The good thing about garage sales is its tax free and you can make money out of your stuff that you don’t need anymore but may prove useful to other people.

The Wonders of Technology
Posted by mhel in business, general, technology on December 14th, 2009
Everyday, I am learning about the wonders of technology and I am both impressed and worried. Impressed in the sense that life is getting easier, comfortable, and exciting because of these electronics and worried because of the potential effects of our reliance on technology, not mentioning its effect on the environment.
There’s something new I learned about today which I would like to share with you all, especially those operating their own businesses. It is probably around for a long time now but since it’s a new thing for me, I am only discussing about it now. The technology allow businesses to receive check payment via phone, fax, or email. Very convenient right?

Business 101
I handled a training course once on Financial Management for SMEs (Small and Medium Entrepreneurs). It was a really interesting mixture of business-minded individuals who have different principles and ideas about business management but all wanting the same — more profitable income from their ventures.
One of my participants was a housewife and employee who in her desire to start her own eatery, took the chance of getting business loans from small-time lenders with high interest charges. When she opened this to the group, a reaction was immediate from a participant who’s a single mom and a catering services proprietor telling her “starting a business from a loan is not lucky according to feng-shui.” The others then piped in and we had quite a lengthy discussion on the subject because half or more of the participants actually started their commerce by getting business loans.

Ebay Philippines Now Charge Fees!
Ebay Philippines has been my hobby and a good source of income for the last months. Although I became a member a couple of years back, I just concentrated and focused on my ebay life just this year. I really am a testimonial of an online-shopper and internet hobbyist turned into a small-time entrepreneur because of ebay.
Months back, I can list and sell all my items, new and preowned, at ebay without any worry! I just need to take time to take pictures of my stuff and be creative in describing it and voila, days after, I already have a sale! It was really fun! Imagine having to auction and actually sell items I don’t need or don’t want anymore! I got addicted to selling that even my husband’s and my son’s bikes and shorts, I auctioned and sold at ebay!

Great Service is a Choice.
The Secret Recipe in Delivering Customer Service
Posted by mhel in business, general, relationship, self-help on November 7th, 2007
In my years as a trainor, I have developed a critical eye and taste in everything — whether in what I do or what others do. Among the things I love criticizing is the kind of service any public or private enterprises provides.
Let me start my blogs on Customer Service with this Cab’s Driver Story, it’s interesting and inspiring.
Great Service is a Choice.
(Excerpt from The Simple Truths of Service)
No one can make you serve customers well. That’s because great service is a choice. Years ago, my friend, Harvey Mackay, told me a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point. He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey. He handed my friend a laminated card and said:
“I’m Wally, your driver. While I’m loading your bags in the trunk I’d like you to read my mission statement.”
