Posted by mhel in about marikina, food trip, general on July 9th, 2010
My favorite bake shop, restaurant and hangout place in Marikina just opened three new branches all over the metro. Those living near their new areas should make time to visit Pan de Amerikanaand try their famous wheat pandesal and ensaymada. I also recommend their chicken pandan, sinigang bangus belly and igado. Here are the location of their new branches: Read the rest of this entry »
Marikina Food Trip: Special Cassava Cake
Posted by mhel in about marikina, food trip, general on July 5th, 2010
While thinking about yummy snack one Saturday afternoon, I recalled a recommendation of a friend about this new food store in Marikina selling special cassava cakes.
Ree Chiechie Cassava Cakes is located along J.P. Rizal St., Nangka Marikina City. The store provides free taste for customers and we gladly took our first bites of their pride cassava which proved to be really delicious. Convinced, we ordered a small box to take back home.
Food Trip: 5-Star Bacon Burger Melt Overload Pizza
A popular meal for Filipinos and Americans is the delectable and topping-filled pizza. Usually, it’s eaten during snacks time but what the heck, we sometimes take it for breakfast, lunch or dinner! My favorite pizzas are the thin-crusted crispy ones. If we have the same taste buds, I’m quite sure you’ll love the new Greenwhich 5-Star Bacon Burger Melt Xtreme Cheese Level-Up Pizza!
Food Trip: Boyongs of Marikina

Craving for delicious halo-halo? Try Boyong’s of San Roque, Marikina City, inexpensive but mouth-watering and truly delicious.
Boyong’s is a popular food joint for Marikina residents from District 1, especially those San Roque, Calumpang, Sta. Elena and Sto. Nino. However, it is fast well-liked even by those coming from other part of Marikina for its cheaply-priced appetizing fod selection.

A Walk at the MetroWalk
Mothers’ day can be celebrated late and it will still be as fun and as memorable. This is my experience yesterday as I spent a lovely and fun day with my college best friends and our kids.
Our bonding started by having our children participate in an art contest at SM Megamall. We never thought we have really creative kids who managed drawing beautiful objects using art materials they just used for the first time.
After the art activity, we continued our bonding session at the Metrowalk in Ortigas. We beat the heat by eating cold treats at Icebergs and proceeded with dinner at Jay-J’s Inasal.
After Voting for Automated Election Treat

While we are waiting for the official announcement of the winning candidates for Marikina local election 2010, let me share with you a little pampering I did after voting for the first-ever automated election.
My husband and I went together to cast our votes in two different precincts in different barangays. Hubby is a registered voter of Barangay Tumana (former Concepcion Uno) while I am still registered in Sto Nino where I lived for twenty five years.

On Spotlight: Cafe Lidia of Marikina
Posted by mhel in about marikina, food trip on April 10th, 2010
One of the best things about Marikina are good eating places. As usual, my friends and I were off to try new restaurants in the city to indulge and to recommend them to this site’s readers if they are worth recommending.
The hot Marikina restaurant for today is Cafe Lidia of Calumpang along Calderon Street. The restaurant theme is somewhat Italian and the place is cozy and clean. I’m a comfort room fan and the john of this one totally passed my criteria.

The food is good. The menu consist of pasta, pizza, cakes, hot and cold coffee treats, and rice meals. The restaurant chef is a true-blooded Marikenyo and one I used to bump with in the gym. My favorite food is Cafe Lidia’s banapple at 120 pesos. I super love it!

I was surprised to know that Sinigang sa Bayabas and Everlasting (sometimes we call it Llanera) are not that popular (if not completely unknown) to others. These two are one of my favorite dishes. And the thing is, those who knew about these dishes, are those who resides in Marikina!
I brought samplers of these dishes at our office in Libis a few years back and whoa, they all love it and asked for he recipe! Too bad I did not cook it myself and just took those from party left overs

2010 Special Treats
Posted by mhel in food trip, general, health and fitness, relationship on January 2nd, 2010
Let me start the year by sharing with you my way of welcoming the 2010.
First stop — indulgence on a much-needed luxury — a spa treat!
After going to SM Marikina to lodge my complaints against Globelines services, I decided to hit another mall since SM department store was not open on January 1. I went to my next favorite mall — the Robinsons Metro East. By this time, I have already decided I wanted a whole body massage so I roam around the beauty and wellness centers at the third level.
Since I already tried Relaksasi Spa a year ago and thought it’s expensive for an ordinary spa service, I looked for another one and found a quite new beauty center named Skin Natural which offers an hour of whole body massage with free use of Dome for only P450. Sounds interesting and reasonably priced so I booked myself in and enjoyed the rest of the spa treat.
