MyPhone S Q27 Duo, A Real Fashionista Phone for Less!

Being a geek fashionista, I’m always on the lookout for new gadgets and techy stuff that are both functional and stylish at the same time. And oh, before I forget, affordability is a major factor to me!

So when I saw the television ad of the stunning Ann Curtis holding a very gorgeous mobile phone with swarovzki crystals, full QWERTy keypad, and slick side-swiveling feature, I know I’m in-love!

Not minding I don’t have a budget yet for a new phone, I head to the mall soon as my schedule permit. I went to SM Marikina Cyberzone, my favorite tech hub, and inquired about MyPhone’s fashion phone. My jaw dropped when I was informed the first unit they have of MyPhone S Q27 was sold some hours ago and they do not have info yet when the new stocks will arrive. I was so depressed not to have a closer look at this ultimate glam phone but wait, I glanced something familiar in the shelf… I thought MyPhone produced my dream fashion phone in different colors but no, I was looking at Cherry Mobile X90 Blush Glam phone models which look exactly the same as the S Q27!

MyPhone is manufactured and distributed locally by Solid Group, Inc., Philippine’s first dual-active sim mobile phone distributor. Cherry mobiles on the other hand are China-made phones. I was told by the salespeople from Cyberzone that Cherry was the first to produce the side-swiveling phone model. Anyway, I’d rather support my own so I asked the salespeople to call me soon as they get their MyPhone S Q27 stock.

MyPhone fashion phone is available in silver finish only with three (3) swarovzki cubic zirconia stones in front and a vanity mirror at the back for quick retouch and makeup check. It boast a dual-active tri-band mode, blutetooth connectivity, 2 megapixerl camera and an FM radio. It’s affordable price is Php6,000+++ only. Anyone thinking of a gift for me, don’t sweat yourself, just think fashion.

Blogs and Sites Owners, Beware of Trademark Domain Name Scam!

This week, I received an email from a China company which sent a jolt to my spine:

Dear Manager:

We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On July,19th,2010, We received HUATAI Company’s application that they are registering the name “marikenya” as their Internet Trademark and “marikenya.cn”, “marikenya.com.cn” ,”marikenya.asia” domain names etc.,It is China and ASIA domain names.But after auditing we found the brand name been used by your company. As the domain name registrar in China, it is our duty to notice you, so I am sending you this Email to check.According to the principle in China,your company is the owner of the trademark,In our auditing time we can keep the domain names safe for you firstly, but our audit period is limited, if you object the third party application these domain names and need to protect the brand in china and Asia by yourself, please let the responsible officer contact us as soon as possible. Thank you!

The thought that I might lose ownership of my site www.marikenya.com, as implied in the email, momentarily stunned me. The trauma of my past experience flooded me, it was when a fake blog hosting service stolen my money and blog’s database which resulted to blog downtime for weeks. When I recuperated from shock, I reread the email and find the grammar of the writer too horrible to digest. I suspected it’s another modus operandi so I did some online research and… Voila, I was right!

The trademark and domain name infringement scam which originated from scammers from China is actually all over the internet. Email senders are trying to squeeze money from the target website owner by making him/her believe that there is a need to register his/her domain name, for instance, marikenya, with other extension such as .cn, .hk, .tw, .asia and other domain extensions only fakers know so they would profit from domain registration. There are other hoax relative to domain scams such as the domain renewal scam where the site or blog owner will be sent an invoice for a domain name that is very similar to his/her current domain name. Blog and site owners need to be aware and watchful of the different modus operated by online scammers as they are very creative and convincing and if you are gullible or nor careful, you might be the next victim.

Marikenya’s New WordPress Fusion Theme Header and Look!

Noticing something new with the site? Oh yeah, I worked hours to achieve this new look — the marikenya.com’s new header and widgets all in cool blue shades. It took me time to put together the new concept for this blog but I am very pleased with its look. I mixed in the concept two of my favorite passion: family and traveling.

Thank goodness I am using the free theme Fusion which is quite customizable and of course, my photoshop 7.0 software still do the job well. I’d like to give credit to Jabey dela Paz, a brilliant photographer, whose Marikina riverpark photo I included in the header. The rest of the photos I took from my travels all over the Philippines.

Passion for Books and Reading

When Ondoy struck in September last year, he destroyed, along with everything else, my precious amass of books I perseveringly collected since I was a teen. It contained bestsellers from my favorite authors and children books and encyclopedia for my son. I am a certified book worm and I wanted to pass on my passion for reading to my son.

After that disaster, I am still motivating myself towards collecting again. There’s still that fear that everything I have will be lost again if another typhoon hit our place. For some time, I lost fondness towards reading. I focused on writing articles and movie watching. I terribly miss books. I even missed buying the newest publication of my new favorite author Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol which is among the best sellers of Amazon books online.

Well I guess, what I’m saying is I am bouncing back to reading and collecting books again, for me and my boy. In fact, I am planning to ransack the collections from Scholastic Warehouse where a good friend works. I’m very excited about this. I am also visiting Amazon online tonight to I can browse over their collections which is even cheaper than the ones you’ll find in the regular bookstores. And also, as an appeal, if anyone wanted to send me a gift, I’d love a book.

SK and Barangay COMELEC Registration for 2010 Election

Since I’ve been receiving questions on the COMELEC Registration for the SK and Barangay Election this October, 2010, I personally called Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Marikina to clarify the schedule. The election is tentatively set on October 25, 2010. For this, take note of the following tentative schedule for the registration:

I SK Registration I
August 6 to 15, 2010, 15 to 17 years old. Those who will turn 15 during the election date are also qualified to register.

I Barangay Registration I
August 1 to 10, 2010

Here are the qualifications and requirements for registration from COMELEC website:

Qualifications:

at least 18 years old;
1 year residence in the Philippines;
6 months residence in the place wherein he proposes to vote

Disqualifications:

sentenced by final judgment to suffer imprisonment of not less than 1 year;
adjudged by final judgment of a competent court;
insane or incompetent persons as declared by competent authority

Identification Requirements:

Employee’s identification card (ID) with the signature of the employer or authorized representative;
Postal ID;
Student’s ID or library card, signed by the school authority;
Senior Citizen’s ID;
Driver’s license;
NBI/PNP clearance;
Passport;
SSS/GSIS ID;
Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) ID;
License issued by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC); and
Any other valid ID.

Note that there’s still no order from COMELEC national to its regional offices as regards the finality of the dates of the registration or the election. For inquiries, you may call COMELEC Marikina at 646-1665 or visit them at the 3rd floor of the Marikina Public Market Bayan.

Marikina Leather Shoe and Bag Industry

Proud as I am for Marikina still being known as the country’s shoe capital, I am sad that when people ask me to recommend to them shoes and bags leather makers in the city, I am simply dumbfounded.

Got these letters from Marikenya.com readers on the topic:

“Hi! I need help on where to fin bag and shoe makers in marikina. I’m from laguna. so i have no idea where to start or where to go. thanks and hope to have your soonest reply.” Jessie

“I am starting a leather bag company and I’m looking for a manufacturer. Can you recommend a few in your city?” Thanks, Mayi

You see, the Marikina shoe industry was badly hit by the influx of cheap China, and recently, even Korea made shoes. Our local shoemakers cannot compete with the price of the shoes from those countries which they can pull very low as there’s local availability of raw materials for shoe production in their areas. Even if Marikina shoes still carry the popular quality and world-class design people rave about our shoes, inexpensive shoes killed our beloved industry. So much was done to help revive the shoe industry of Marikina which is referred to as a ‘dying’ or a ‘sunset industry’ already. It seem though that the efforts were not enough to put the once shining industry back on top.

Before this bog got hacked by a fake hosting service provider, I already put a list of shoe manufacturers in Marikina which data I consolidated from MCTTIPO and other sources. I am devastated that I wasn’t able to retrieve that article anymore so I’m back to square one.

For the purpose of putting a directory of listing of bag and shoe manufacturers in Marikina City, especially those in line with leathercraft, I invite anyone to send me information about existing manufacturers of such in the city containing the following information:

Name of the Company/Business
Product Type
Address/Location
Contact Information

Whether you are the owner/employee of the said business or simply wanted to help the said manufacturer get into the listing, your contribution is welcome. Once I get at least two names for the said listing, I’d have it put up in this site already and would just update it with every submission of new names.

Vain Mommies

While I am a fashionista mom, I wouldn’t exactly say I’m vain. In fact, I am not particular about brands when I buy stuff, what matters to me is quality and design. I don’t mind also roaming around the original people’s mall, Divisoria, for good buys. I love buying beautiful and useful things at steal prices.

When it comes to health and beauty though, I know one cannot be cheap. For instance, I cannot trust the fate of my face with cheap unknown facial wash faintly hoping they would not cause much damage. I also recognize the fact that if you wanted to be beautiful, you should invest on it. For instance, when I gave birth to my baby, I was also granted some souvenir, white-colored stretch marks all over my waist and stomach. These marks already faded over the years but they remained an eyesore and would need effective stretch marks cream to really clear it. That is some investment I may also consider getting into.

However, as a mom, what remains to be my priority is my son. I’ve always postponed owning a new bag or grabbing that cute blouse over a nice shirt and cute shoes for my baby. Reality check, parenting oftentimes overpower a mom’s vanity.

In the past days, I tried to squeeze in my schedule my long-time planned layout and design change for this site marikenya.com. The problem is I was always running out of time and the little I have was always not enough for a blog design overhaul.

But happily, I’d like to announce a little addition to this site. For the regular readers, you may notice a new widget at the mid-right part of the sidebar. The title of this article may be misleading. I didn’t mean to say I was not working in the last two days when metro manila was engulped with darkness (because of the power failure), I meant I am back working online.

Until last night, as I was trying to sleep very early because there was nothing to do but that, I though technology has really gotten me into my system. Not being online for a night was a great loss, of not being able to update my websites and not being able to work online for my VA job. One more thing, I set the night for searching for ideas on diet plans that work thay may help me return to health land.

Thank goodness, the power is restored after a day of madness and I’m back to the virtual world. Mabuhay!

Marikina Job Fair on July 23

To all job seekers, another major job fair is set to happen in Marikina this coming July 23, from 8AM to 3Pm at the Marikina Sports Park (badminton area).

The job fair is organized by the Labor Relations and Public Employment and Services Office or LRPESO (previously called PESO-WAO) which also held a similar job fair last April 23. If you wanted to participate in the said job fair, here are the things you should prepare:

Updated and cleanly printed copies of your resume
Original and photocopies of your employment requirements such as NBI, police clearance, SSS ID, employment certificates, transcript of record (TOD), etc.
Multiple copies of ID pictures in 1×1 and 2×2
Ballpens and notepads (to note instructions)
Decent and presentable job application attire
