Women’s Health Awareness
Posted by mhel in general, health and fitness on March 15th, 2010
March being a Women’s Month is the best time to look at problems, specifically, health-related, that women are prone to acquiring.
This weekend was specially stressful for me. My husband and I decided to finally work on a home makeover and I assisted him on repainting our whole ground floor. The idea seemed simple at first but I learned in the process how physically tiring it is. While battling with the roll brush and fixing furniture, I had to bring my sister for an operation.
My ate underwent several tests prior the operation and the doctor advised that she needs to undergo curettement (or raspa in Filipino) and removal of follicles or follics. These ovarian cysts will be sent to laboratory for testing to find out what next step to take. I stayed with my ate until the operation is over and prayed for its success. Now, I am praying that the result of the test will be negative, that the cysts are not harmful at all.

Are You Into Pills?
Posted by mhel in general, health and fitness on February 21st, 2010

While going around Riverbanks mall yesterday, my eyes were fixated on a stall selling different large bottles of pills. I believe most of those are imported and came from different countries such as America, China, Taiwan, etc.
For almost every need, there are medicinal pills you can take and you can simply buy them in these stalls, not pharmacies, and no need for a doctor’s prescription.

Since I was advised by a doctor to undergo laboratory examinations such as fasting blood sugar or FBS testing and ECG examination, I called up the Marikina City Health Office this morning. The lab testings will determine the potentiality of health issues such as occurrence of diabetes or heart disease. Since lab tests are usually expensive, I am looking for cheap alternatives so I inquired about the services of the health office of Marikina which I believe is way cheaper.

Valentine Health Alert
Posted by mhel in general, health and fitness on February 15th, 2010
How was yor valentine’s day celebration? I feel wonderful this morning as I received my post-valentine’s day white rose. Not a bad way to start a busy monday morning.
I literally made our family hearts’ day celebration sweet by making a potfull of delicious and creamy chocolate from the kitchen of Chef Andrew of Bakers’ Depot. My thanks to my darling sis Nhet for teaching me the simple way of making chocolate fondue without the fondue maker but nonetheless, still as tasty and mouth-watering. My family and I loved dipping the bread sticks and special marshmallows, again from Chef Andrew’s kitchen, into the home-made melted chocolate. We also made chocolate cupcakes which we put inside the refrigerators to chill as our valentine’s gift for my Nanay and my husbands’s Mommy.

Need Help on Child Sleeping Problem
Posted by mhel in general, health and fitness on January 25th, 2010
May I solicit suggestions/recommendations on how to remedy our child’s poor sleeping habits?
My 7-year-old boy has been having problems sleeping early. Not that he actually treat this as a problem because he obviously enjoys sleeping very late. Just like any child, my son likes staying up late and we allow him this sleeping preference on weekends when he doesn’t need to wake up early for school.
However, he became fond of the late sleeping habits and he even applies it on weekdays now. What troubles us is that his eyes already show the strain from sleeping late and the dermatologist said sleeping late is among the factors for skin asthma which attacked him lately.

Posted by mhel in general, health and fitness on January 20th, 2010
Do you sleep well at night? If not, do you have sleeping disorder or simply need to stay awake even during wee hours? If indeed you are lacking sleep, what are the visible effects of such in you physically, behaviorally, or health-wise?
In the last weeks, I myself have been experiencing sleep disorders. There was even a time this week where I fell asleep only after four (4) in the morning but the bad thing was I needed to get up at six (6) for a prior engagement. I felt very tired and the lack of sleep gave me a headache and terrible eyebags. Look at this photo –
