Moms, Be Careful When Shopping for School Supplies. Read My National Book Store Experience.

June 11, 2008 · Filed Under general, self-help, shopping · 6 Comments

The school season just started this week and until last week and even up to this day, mothers are very busy preparing the things their kids need for school. This includes trips to the book and department stores to buy school supplies, bags, shoes, etc. I was one of these moms and I headed to the National Bookstore (NBS) in Robinson’s Metro East last weekend to scout for a trolley bag for my little Marikenyo.

When we came to NBS, it was not surprising that it was totally crowded with parents and even children making last-minute shopping for school supplies. I was lax with my bag since I was thinking, I’m in the mall, not in Divisoria or a market. After some time, I heard the guy beside me saying a little louder “mag-ingat sa mandurukot” (be careful with snatchers). I immediately looked for my MP4 which I placed in the pocket of my bag and learned that the zipper was opened and the only thing left is the earphones. My MP4 was stolen while I was browsing for school supplies right inside the National Bookstore!

The Site for Shopaholics

May 25, 2008 · Filed Under shopping · Comment

Those who are close to me know how bad my shopping addiction is. Fortunately in the last weeks, I was able to control my urge (good enough!) to splurge because I had to enroll my son and buy him school stuff.

However, this week, I totally went overboard shopping for swimwear, lingerie, and computer accessories. Last year, when I was still an active member of a popular auction site, I was able to sell a lot of stuff but I hardly made good profit because of my online shopping sprees.

Stressed and Tired, Badly Needed a Massage

April 23, 2008 · Filed Under general, shopping · 3 Comments

This week is such a stressful week. Physically and mentally, I’m exhausted. I forgot to mention that I’m wiped out financially, the reason why I kept on writing about my summer dreams.

One good thing about adults and matured people like me (allow me to address myself such please), when I am stressed, I don’t do drugs or get drunk. I just have two quite expensive vices though — shopping and massage therapy.

These days, even if I wanted so much to hit the mall and splurge for a spa massage, budgeting has been harder than ever with the price of rice, oil and other basic commodities going up. Anyway, for those who are spa addict like me, no need to get out of Marikina for luxurious and relaxing sessions. Here are some good spa located in our very own city, Marikina:

—> La Veranda Marikina Garden Spa, The Marikina Orchidarium Compound
#70 General Ordonez St. Marikina Heights, Marikina City, Philippines. Telephone Numbers +632 940-4811 or 941-5035. They offer Massage Therapy, Body Care, Foot Care, and Facial Care services.

—> Balneario Senses at the Marikina Hotel in Pio Del Pilar St. cor. Tangerine St., Brgy. Concepcion II, Marikina City, Philippines. Telephone Numbers +632 998 8342 to 45. Located at the Ground floor of the Hotel, the Spa room offers relaxing massage services for both in-house and walk-in guests. Open from 12:00 NN to 1:00 AM. (NO LONGER OPERATIONAL)

—> The Red Bamboo Spa at the Building K of Riverbanks Mall, Marikina, Philippines. Telephone Numbers +632 9484445. They offer massage and body care services too.

Gift Ideas and More, A Mother’s Day Special

April 17, 2008 · Filed Under general, relationship, shopping · Comment

Mothers are indeed very special and it was just fitting that every year, Mother’s Day is celebrated as a tribute to their unconditional, unpretentious and unparalleled love. It is this day of the year that a mother should be given special treatment — breakfast in bed, day-off from chores, Mothers Day Baskets with lovely flowers, and more.

For more appreciation of this special occasion, let us visit briefly its history. The popular belief was Mother’s Day was envisaged in the boardroom of Hallmark but in truth, the earliest tributes to mothers began in Greece and Rome as offering to their gods. In United States, 150 years ago, Anna Jarvis organized an event called “Mother’s Day Work” and she also urged President Woodrow Wilson to declare the second Sunday of May as Mothers Day. Interestingly, the daughter of Anna Jarvis, also named Anna, started a campaign to memorialize the life work of her mother. Young Anna said she would never forget when her mother said this in a Sunday school lesson: “I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mother’s day. There are many days for men, but none for mothers.”

Everything Online

March 25, 2008 · Filed Under general, shopping · Comment

These days, almost everything may be found in the world wide web. I started selling online a couple of years back and I was astounded that almost everything can be sold and bought in the net. You may buy you groceries or even even prescription drugs like mircette or alesse online, really hassle-free.

I remember last year when I was reading a forum of a popular auction site, a buyer was complaining about a scammer who did not send the preowned baby bottles she bought from the merchant and my reaction was — “What? She would allow her baby to use used feeding bottles from strangers???” But in reality, that’s the “advantage” of shopping and selling online. One can buy prescription drugs in MagicxPharmacy or sell broken appliances, no holds barred.

It’s really convenient to do shopping and selling online. One thing though, beware of scammers, sellers and buyers alike.

A Woman’s Fantasy and Fancy

February 15, 2008 · Filed Under business, general, shopping · 6 Comments

I have always been frank and proud about my humble beginnings. Actually, my life is still as modest but with some embellishments. When I was younger, among my simple dreams was to have a shower installed in our bathroom. Since I experienced the joy of taking a shower bath, I have always thought it would be so cool to have our very own shower at home.

That childhood dream was still with me when I fixed our little house when I was already capable of financing the renovation. With my mean salary, of course I can only afford a discount bathroom but nevertheless with my dream shower in it.

I have personally picked and bought the materials for the bathroom construction and to highlight my showering experience, I have designed the bathroom with beautiful lighting, although again, I can only afford cheap lights, but nevertheless, it highlighted my showering and bathing experience.

I’m really happy I’m quite a simple person and that I take joy in simple things. As I always say, “life is what we make it.” I chose to be cheerful even if I was only able to afford inexpensive things. My fantasies and fancies are quite simple so it’s easier to be happy. Try it today — appreciate more, love more, smile more. It’s a beautiful day. :)

Choosing Valentine’s Gift For Your Lady Love

January 16, 2008 · Filed Under general, relationship, self-help, seo, shopping · 7 Comments

(This article was created by request of my favorite reader, palitoking.)

A couple of days ago, I’ve written tips onInexpensive Valentine’s Day Gifts for boyfriends and husbands. This time, I would be sharing to you winning ideas on what a boyfriend, husband or even a suitor may give his lady love this valentines.

  • Anything Sweet and Nice. In this category, the traditional flowers and chocolates are still considered winners, only if there’s a twist. It is still fun receiving flowers and chocolates on v-day but really boring and not exciting anymore. But don’t despair, the roses and ferrero trick would still work if you modify the way it was given. Examples? Hmmm… if all this time, you have been personally giving the flowers to your honey, this time, have it delivered! Nothing beats a woman’s moment where all eyes are on her because she was handed a bouquet of flowers from a delivery man. And oh, don’t forget your handwritten card with your truly sweet message on it!

  • Anything Cute and Adorable. Women always love receiving cute and adorable stuff. It need not be expensive also. Classic example of items that falls in this category are the huggable stuf toys (it may sound old school but women still love hugging stuff toys from lovers) but makes sure, the size of the stuff toy is indeed for hugging and not looking. For modification, you may give a stuff toy with some blings on it (didn’t i say women love blings?) like matching bracelet and necklace. You may also put a tag on the cute thing’s neck with a message like “Her name is ____, and she’s here to always remind you how much I adore you.”

“Love is in the air… Can you feel it? If you can’t, you’re insensitive and hopeless!” Marikenya

It’s already mid-January and at this time, malls and other shopping places are already crawling with Valentine’s Day gift items. Hmm… Being a total shopping freak, my issue is choosing to buy my honey an expensive valentine’s day gift or… make him one?

Since I’ve bought him an expensive shirt last Christmas and I’m short of budget, I’l vouch for the latter — my valentines day gift would be a personalized one. :)

And of course, if you would opt to give your honey a personalized treat, then better start thinking now! Let me share with you some fantastic personalized and inexpensive ideas that would melt and fire the passion in your romance this Valentines.

  • A Personal Massage and Other Treats Coupons. A couple of years back, I thought of a really sweet and innovative birthday present for my husband. I designed and printed coupons from my computer that offers full-body massage, foot spa treat, free carwash, and “extra services” deemed by the holder (*wink). Read more

    Online Store Anyone?

Want to Open an Online Store?
Tips and Tricks on Getting One and Becoming Successful.

We all blog mainly for two reasons — first is because we love to blog (blogging is addictive I say!) and second, because there is money in blogging.

Since I started my blog a couple of months now, I’ve been experimenting continuously on adding and removing features on it that I deem necessary. Just yesterday, I’ve ventured into another business tactic for my blog. I opened my Marikenya’s Online Store! I’ve been a seller a in ebay for more than a year now and selling online has been a really good source of income for me and I believe having my own store will be more exciting and more lucrative!

Let’s say I’ve been so convincing that you now wanted to have your very own online store. Here are some of the steps to take in getting one:

    1. Decide on the kind or type of products to sell. Will it be fashion products? Electronics or gadgets perhaps? It may be goodies for home improvement or even digital scrapbooking designs… The key in choosing your product is knowing what interest you and the availability of raw materials or suppliers to get your items from.

    2. Get an ecommerce software. Make selling easy and fun by getting a an ecommerce software that offers total solution to a seller like the hosting provided by ecommerce software. Choose one that is affordable, easy to use, offers a 24/7 technical support and one that will get you on top of the search engines.
