Summer Travel Safety Tips
Already set for your summer travel trip? Before packing your stuff and jumping into that plane, bus or ship, it would be helpful to take into consideration various travel tips. By knowing expert tips on traveling, you will be somehow assured of an enjoyable summer holiday.
For those traveling abroad, note these basic travel reminders:
1. Review your travel documents — passports, plane tickets, visa(s), hotel accommodation advisory, etc.
2. Important documents and necessities should be in your carry-on luggage or hand-carry. These valuables include travel documents, medication, expensive jewelries and gadgets. I would suggest you also pack extra clothing in your hand carry (a piece of shirt, undies, and pants or short) so even if your luggage get lost in transit or experience delay, you have something to change on.
3. Take the expert business travelers advise: “take twice as much money and half as many clothes as you think you’ll need.” Maybe not easy on the pocket but today, airlines usually enforce policies like “one piece of carry-on luggage” rule. This is especially enforced on full flights so travel as light as possible. ATMs and credit cards will come in handy too.
4. Keeping duplicate copies of important travel documents just in case you lost the original copies, you will have references.

Pinoy Summer Destinations for 2010
Summer started very early this year and not surprisingly, a lot of families and friends have already planned or already planning their 2010 summer destinations.
If you are going out of town this summer, your choices will be to go local or international. This decision will depend highly on budget or affordability and desire to visit a particular place.
For Metro Manilans who wanted to go out of town for a swim or nature tripping, the best bets are Tagaytay, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Batangas. For those with better budgets, Baguio, Puerto Galera, and Ilocos are top favorites too.
ShareThe Heat is ON!
The scorching heat of the morning and afternoon sun makes me think of nothing less but glorious and fun summer vacations!
Summer started early this year. In fact, I don’t understand the weather at all. Maybe the effect of global warming, of climate change. During early morning, it is very cold but a little later than that, you’d feel like you’re inside a giant oven. It’s crazy when the sun ray strike you uncovered, you’d feel as if you were hit by a hot laser.
In hot days like these, there are two only things one may think of: cold treats like ice cream, halo-halo, banana con yelo (banana with ice); and summer outings! The cold treats may easily be acquired and inexpensive but the summer vacation may be expensive depending on your desired destination.

Wordless Wednesday: A Quiet Reminisce
I never dreamt of owning a yacht until I saw this photo by my talented friend Engr. Ebet Malonzo. Taken at the Manila Yacht Club.

Wordless Wednesday: Breathtaking Sagada

Breathtaking view of Bumod-ok Falls in Sagada taken by Engr. Ebet Malonzo. I hope I’ll be able to see this place one day.
Philippine Holidays for 2010 and Summer Destinations
The Department of Tourism (DOT) issued early the calendar of Philippine Holidays this 2010 to guide tourists, local and foreign, to plan their vacations.
DOT encourages Pinoys to spend their vacation here in our local destinations other than going abroad to help the local economy. “Spend money here for the long holidays,” says DOT. Aside from the country’s eight (8) anchor sites which are Boracay, Palawan, Davao, Cebu, Bohol, Vigan, Baguio, and Manila, it encourages local tourists to visit what they dubb as “unexplored sites” which will help the communities in said areas. Some of these unexplored sites in terms of beaches are Camiguin, Leyte, Mindoro, Occidental and Oriental Negros, Siquijor, and Quezon while nature-lovers may consider going to Bataan, Batanes, Benguet, Bulacan, Cavite, Marinduque, and Romblon and heritage hunters may seek the old historical charm of Bacolod and Iloilo.
Here is the calendar of long weekends according to RA 9492 and Proclamation 1841, Malacanang’s declaration of regular and special non-working holidays for 2010:

Summer Travel Plans
Have you planned for your family or friends’ summer getaway already? In a few months, beach resorts and and swimming pool resorts will again be packed with people looking for a good adventure under the sun.
My last year’s summer was very colorful, it is the best in all of my life’s summer as I was able to travel the Philippines from Luzon to Visayas to Mindanao. These travels were courtesy of the foundation where I serve as a resource person and another institution where I was part of a research team. I still can’t believe my luck, I never thought that I’d be able to roam the Philippines for free courtesy of my on-the-side job assignments.

Dream Trip to Cebu City
Some months ago last year, my dream trip to Cebu City was realized, thanks to God! The foundation where I serve as a resource person conducted a seminar for the college students of Cebu Normal University and so, our journey begin!

Our group stayed at the Maxwell Hotel along N. Escario St., Cebu City. It’s a fairly new hotel and one of the cleanest I stayed on in my trips to different parts of the country. It is a simple but elegant looking hotel with cable TV, WiFi access, and efficient and service-oriented staff. We have eaten breakfast at their hotel restaurant for three days and were satisfied with their food. I loved their chorizo, Cebu’s version of longganisa, and I was very delighted when we were able to order kilos of it from the restaurant staff to bring back home to Manila.

Maxwell was in the middle of the city and from there, it was easy to travel to other destinations like to our seminar venue, the Cebu Normal College. Cebuano youngsters are indeed intelligent and participative participants, I consider them one of the most active group I ever had for an audience.

After our seminar, it’s time to roam Cebu, the exciting part! We visited of course the most popular sites in Cebu located at Colon St. — the Santo Nino de Cebu Basilica and Magellan’s Cross (which is located at the back of the basilica). With a tip from local Cebuanos, we walked along the stretch of the back of the basilica and found street shops selling Cebu souvenir items at low price. Nhet and I were very happy with our purchases which included pretty Cebu key chains and cellphone charms at P5 and P10 each!
