Are There Museums in Marikina?
I have recently joined a forum for Marikeños and I was very glad to meet a lot of good people there from my city. One of the forum members asked about places in Marikina where he can bring in his students for an educational tour. I said there are lots.
Marikina is now a favorite destination for educational field trips. There is the famous Shoe Museum, Marikina is not Marikina without mentioning shoes. Another museum and cultural center there is the The Sentrong Pangkultura ng Marikina or Marikina Cultural Center. It is also called Kapitan Moy Cultural Center, named after its former owner Don Laureano Guevarra or Kap Moy who was the father of the city’s shoe industry.
There are more museums now in the city. One is the Belen Museum which houses different belen collections of a Marikeño. Another is the Miniature Museum which displays adorable minis of furniture, toys, people, crafts and other materials that if actually on sale will be the perfect baby gifts or even collection for adults.
The city also have a Doll Museum where adorable barbie-like-dolls are on display. These dolls shows the history and culture of Marikina and our country. There is also one place that students n a field trip would love to see although it’s not a museum — the World of Butterflies. This place is indeed a haven for butterfly and nature lovers.
