Pinoy Summer Destinations for 2010

Summer started very early this year and not surprisingly, a lot of families and friends have already planned or already planning their 2010 summer destinations.

If you are going out of town this summer, your choices will be to go local or international. This decision will depend highly on budget or affordability and desire to visit a particular place.

For Metro Manilans who wanted to go out of town for a swim or nature tripping, the best bets are Tagaytay, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Batangas. For those with better budgets, Baguio, Puerto Galera, and Ilocos are top favorites too.

The Seafood of Roxas and Iloilo

Can you blame me if I easily gained weight for staying three days in Iloilo City and Roxas City where you can eat the freshest seafood in the land?

Please Don’t hate me for bragging about my dining experiences on those towns as I really enjoyed it (much as I wanted to control my appetite). Seafood maybe the most expensive meals in Metro Manila but not in Iloilo and Roxas. Our breakfast, lunch and dinner consisted of crabs, shrimps, squids, blue marlin, scallops, and oyster. At one point, I had to pause after eating a spoonful of oyster because I felt my heart beat went faster than usual. I told myself I don’t want a heart attack in Iloilo and Ilonggos remembering me as the “girl from Marikina who suffered from high blood pressure.”

Indeed, Roxas and Iloilo have the best and freshest seafood in the country and I hope I’ll be back there soon as I enjoyed not only the food but the people as well. Ilonggos are very hospitable and I had the most relaxing and enjoyable weekend because of them. The Iloonggo tongue even rubbed on me even after I came back to Marikina. I loved saying “tinuod” instead of “totoo” (true) and “ako man” instead of “ako din” (me too). After my brief tours in these towns, I appreciated more the beauty of local dialects.

Who Needs Unwinding?

If you are dead tired, what do you usually think of doing?

Do you love massage or going to the spa? What about a good movie or a good book? Or like most women, do you love shopping too when you feel stressed? Any weird ideas how you put away stress in your life or how you bring back to life your dead muscles?

My stress started last week as I lost so much sleep preparing for my powerpoint presentations for my seminar for Cebu City. I was very excited with my presentation for the foundation, FFICI, which invited me to be one of their resource persons for their community-based training programs. Since I am a graphic designer too, I usually make my powerpoint presetations perfectly, as in beautifully designed. This means I spend long hours and even days to actually work on my presentations. Something unfortunate happened though when I was almost done with one of my presentations (which I worked for like five hours). When I took a break to eat, my son just decided its time for him to play online and instead of just opening an internet browser, he closed all the open files including my powerpoint which he did not bother saving! I did not know that with MS Office Powerpoint 2007, you still need to configure the settings to auto-save which means that all those time I was working, nothing was saved!
