Sites, Network, and Connection Downtime

May 14, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, seo · 2 Comments

Among the worst thing that may happen to a site or blog is experiencing downtime. For a blog or site, this temporary or frequent downtime may cause decrease in readership, rejected or withheld monetizing opportunities or even decrease in page rank (PR).

In an organization set-up, more and more companies these days depend on network services and applications so downtime of servers or connections are deplorable. Effective network monitoring services like the ones offered by Uplogix, a top IT remote network solutions company, are critical. Productivity of employees are now almost dependable on the speed and stability of networks.

I’m pretty lucky I have a particularly good host service for marikenya site. I hardly experienced downtime since it was created in October last year. I am not that lucky though with my broadband service at home since each time I log in, I always wait for an average of 20 to 40 minutes before I get connected and oftentimes, the speed connection is appalling.

Technology is at times, unreliable and most of the time, pricey.

The Effects of Blogging and Technology in Life’s Experiences and Decision Making

May 7, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, general · 2 Comments

I have been a blogger for more than two years now but it was only less than half a year that I became a serious blogger. I have always considered myself a novice in blogging but I must admit, I have come a long way since the day I owned the domain Marikenya and started journaling my experiences in Marikina and everything else that I believe matters.

When I started, HTML codes and SEO terms were really alien to me. Whenever I would encounter and would helplessly understand them, I nosebleed. Blogging opened a whole new world to me. It made me understand the language of technology. It made me discover and enjoy what used to be gray areas of struggling for page rank, increasing traffic and alexa ranking, social marketing, finding niches for monetization, etc…

I now understand the importance of blogs in helping people to cope and learn online. Why blogs like http://www.stylishdesign.com/ helps people comprehend with complicated programming language and provide tutorial and tips on how to improve the layout and design of one’s website. No wonder blogging is now considered a popular tool in promoting advocacies, spreading rumors, or simply journaling an unimportant event of the day.

Blog Advertising War

January 11, 2008 · Filed Under blogging, general, seo · 2 Comments

“Whammy, Whammy, Spare My Blog Money!!!”

When I started blogging a year ago, I only thought of it as a venue for self-expression and exercising my writing skills. Everything changed when I acquired my self-hosted blog. The money factor, whether I like it or not, is a major consideration. Why? Because I have to pay for my domain and hosting, electrical bill and internet connection charges. It’s not enough that I get the high from blogging, it’s a reality that I need to settle my account by monetizing my blog.

Today, a lot of advertisers uses the internet versus the mass media as a cheaper alternative in advertising their products. This is where a lot of bloggers earn revenues. By being paid through ads.

How to get paid for blogging? Advertisers choose to advertise on blogs which are registered and approved by “paid posts” sites. Once approved, you will be given tasks to write about articles on specific services, company, organizations, or websites which you will be asked to post in your blog and voila! Easy Money! From what I’ve experienced and heard from fellow bloggers, Smorty is among the most popular sites where you get job offers regardless of page ranks and it also pays faster than competitors.

Online Store Anyone?

Want to Open an Online Store?
Tips and Tricks on Getting One and Becoming Successful.

We all blog mainly for two reasons — first is because we love to blog (blogging is addictive I say!) and second, because there is money in blogging.

Since I started my blog a couple of months now, I’ve been experimenting continuously on adding and removing features on it that I deem necessary. Just yesterday, I’ve ventured into another business tactic for my blog. I opened my Marikenya’s Online Store! I’ve been a seller a in ebay for more than a year now and selling online has been a really good source of income for me and I believe having my own store will be more exciting and more lucrative!

Let’s say I’ve been so convincing that you now wanted to have your very own online store. Here are some of the steps to take in getting one:

1. Decide on the kind or type of products to sell. Will it be fashion products? Electronics or gadgets perhaps? It may be goodies for home improvement or even digital scrapbooking designs… The key in choosing your product is knowing what interest you and the availability of raw materials or suppliers to get your items from.

2. Get an ecommerce software. Make selling easy and fun by getting a an ecommerce software that offers total solution to a seller like the hosting provided by ecommerce software. Choose one that is affordable, easy to use, offers a 24/7 technical support and one that will get you on top of the search engines.

Marikenya’s Journey Into the Blogging Haven

December 21, 2007 · Filed Under blogging, business, self-help, seo · 10 Comments

“Slowly finding my niche in the blogging world.”

I have long ago thought of having my own blog. In fact, before having my own domain Marikenya, I was already maintaining different blogs hosted by friendster, multiply, blogger and even piczo.

It was through Neil, a good friend I met in my CPE class, that I finally decided getting my own domain (Neil paid for my domain and hosting and I still owe him dollars for that). He was very convincing and very supportive and truly knowledgeable that I know, I’d be lost in my blogging venture if not for him.

The “Financial Thrills” of Blogging

December 7, 2007 · Filed Under blogging, seo · Comment

I put up my blog a month ago and honestly, I’m really hooked! There was even a time I thought of resigning from my day job so I can devote all my waking hours writing stuff and thinking new ideas for my blog. Just recently, I became more addicted to blogging when a blogger friend told me about the financial benefits my blog could bring me!

My friends told me about sites where you’ll be able to write posts while earning at the same time. Among my favorites is PayPerPost. I’ve heard so much about it from friends especially from Neil (who is my blogging mentor and inspiration), he said it has a good payment scheme. Needless to say, I signed up and was happy when I was approved.

Pinay Scandal… in the Mind of Pinays

November 7, 2007 · Filed Under blogging, general, seo · 58 Comments

Pinay Scandal… Indeed is searchable in the internet today because of the magnanimous information containing malicious contents. Websites are selling Filipinas, and sadly, for sex and porn.

Just an hour ago, before I read this blog by marhgil, I was thinking of putting in my site the words “proudly marikenya” because I thought, as a Filipina, I’m a proud Pinay but locally, I’m a proud Marikina girl. Thinking of those porn links that will pop out of google when you type the words pinay scandal… should I think twice before I proclaim myself as a proud pinay?

I don’t think so. I’m a proud Filipina, period.

No ill-minded and ruthless porn website owners could make think otherwise. Although in the mind of many, especially in the mind of those horny and horrific males, pinays are associated with scandals and porn flicks, I still stand with my belief that nobody, even the world wide web, can tarnish and diminish the integrity of Filipinas.

Last month, I was searching in the internet for successful Filipinas since it was the assignment of my nephew. I was dumbfounded that there is no website or articles in the result that directs me to my key words! See the result of my search in this screenshot:

pinay scandal???

It’s so disgusting that when you use the word Pinay or Filipina, the search engine would produce links to porn and dating sites but not on articles or sites that proclaim and dignify Filipino women.

I hope that this blog and the blog of marhgil would serve as an eye opener to us all Filipinos to do something about “us.” Let us stop fornicating our culture and our Filipina women. There’s so much about Pinays that is worth celebrating and honoring.

From now on, I would write and post more in my blog about stories of successful Pinays. Let’s see if my posts would make it to the search engines.

Are You an Internet Quiz Addict?
A Look at the Internet Quiz Craze

October 27, 2007 · Filed Under blogging, general, seo, technology · Comment

    internet quiz addiction

Are you addicted to internet quizzes? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. There are millions (or probably billions) of internet users around the world now who are hooked in taking internet quizzez which varies from rational and essentials to downright stupid tests. Exactly the reason why the likes of tickle and queendomare such a hit today.

I would admit however that i have taken some of these tests myself and even enjoyed reading the results. I really like the tests telling you your personality type and the kind of lover you are :)

Why do people take these quizzes? Do they really believe that the results are accurate and the people who created these tests are indeed experts? A professor of mine remarked that internet is not a credible source of information if you are looking for the scholastic ones because the source of the info are not verifiable or not even written down.
