Happy But Sunburned

May 20, 2008 · Filed Under travel · Comment

Our summer getaway this weekend was blessed. At first, we thought our swimming plans will be jeopardized by Cosme, the typhoon. At about 7 am, the sun already smiled as if encouraging us to push through with our plans so we did. We headed to the pool before 9 am.

Pops, my lady friend and I, were the only ones who worry so much about the effect of our day swimming in our skin. Why not? We were using top wrinkle cream and whitening lotions and ointments whole-year. Anyway, because the sun was not showing much when we reached the resort, we did not bother anymore putting on sunblocks. In the afternoon, we realized we’re already burned big time especially my son, who thought he was the male version of Dyesebel. He swam the whole afternoon and when we already asked him to finally hit the shower, we all laughed at his white buttocks (which was shielded by his swimming trunks) in contrast to his very dark sunburned color.

Ideas for Summer 2008

April 22, 2008 · Filed Under general, travel · 5 Comments

The heat is still on! It’s still summer and although I’m perspiring big time whenever I’m out of the house, summer always makes me feel good. For the past years, I have always been the summer-and-water babe, this means that summer for me means swimming, pools and beaches. This summer, I’ve decided not to be out in the sun so much, I was afraid to sacrifice all my efforts to be a little whiter plus the fact that because of the effect of global warming, staying under the sun too long may result to skin cancer and the like. My summer would be ruined by spending for clinical laboratory service, no way.

For those living in Marikina, here are some summer ideas for the family, no need for an out-of-town vacation for a fun and enjoyable summer:

- Picnic at the Park. The riverpark is a long stretch, you can choose between three options: staying under the shade of kubo or huts, barangay Sto. Niño side; eating and relaxing on the cemented tables which can be found anywhere along the whole stretch of the river; and by spreading mats or picnic cloths on the ground and grass. Just this year, two birthdays in our family were celebrated at the park and we had so much fun especially the kids.

- Visiting the Mini-Zoo developed and maintained by Barangay Sto. Niño, it is located near the skating rink at the Kawayanan Area. The mini zoo have a nice collection of snakes, birds and monkeys. They also have giant statues of dinosaurs. Kids will enjoy going to the place.

- Dine and relax at the Fun-Pamilya Park. Marikina has its own version of Kainan sa Dampa. In the Riverbanks area, just across the riverbanks Gazebo, you will find a whole stretch of restaurants serving sumptuous but cheaply priced grilled food of different variety — seafood, chicken and meat. Everything that your heart desire actually. My special favorite is the food house called “Simply Me,” I love their baked tahong and grilled porkchop with lots of garlic on top. The area used to have a go-kart race track too and for 40.00 only!

It’s Still Summer So I’m Still Dreaming

April 9, 2008 · Filed Under general, travel · 1 Comment

I have written about some places and even countries I would love to be this summer but I haven’t mentioned my ultimate summer dream: a vacation spree in the land of bikinis and thongs, Hawaii.

Not because I wanted to wear those (in my dreams!) but because when you hear the word Hawaii, it’s almost synanimous with phrase “the most beautiful beaches in the world.” It’s like the popularity of Boracay in the Philippines (and some parts of the world), but Hawaii is a popular beach destination worldwide.

Check out these photos from Hawaii Travel Blog where you can get Hawaii’s Oahu Vacation Information. Today is just another hot day and nothing refreshes me more than looking at these pictures of sceneries with water, of water, and water…

If you’re luckier than me and instead of just dreaming, you may have actual budget to go to my dream destination, you may want to check out this early Oahu vacation rentals where I’ve heard you’d get better rates than staying in hotels.

More Summer Dreams…

April 8, 2008 · Filed Under general, travel · Comment

It’s still summer right? So, I’m still up dreaming for summer getaways. Fortunately, in real life, I still haven’t been out of town since the dawn of the summer sun. Pity me.

That’s the beauty of having the liberty to dream whatever you want. I get to go to places I’ve always wanted to be — without the hassle of getting a passport (I still don’t have one), a visa, or worrying about the fare and spending money.

Where would I wanna go this time? To where everyone wanted to go I guess — Thailand! This country is among the most popular vacation spot in South East Asia. Just last week, one of my colleague’s wife who’s a top brass in a big pharmaceutical company just went on a tour to Phuket, Thailand It was sponsored by her company who Rent holiday villas & condos in Thailand for her. I was green with envy but of course, happy for her.

The Benefits of Summer on Cost Cutting

March 28, 2008 · Filed Under general · Comment

For most parts of Metro Manila, the heat is bearable but very uncomfortable. It’s very hot indeed and whenever I would see water, it’s like I’m seeing heaven. Whenever I watch TV today, my eyes bulge whenever I see beaches and swimming pools and I feel very hot that indeed, if I can get into the screen and dive directly into the waters, I would definitely do it.
