Oil Increase, Transport Strike, and Fast Weight Loss
Today is not a good day for commuters like me. The transport group launched another Metro Manila wide strike this morning and up to 90 percent of NCR’s commuting public is estimated to be affected. I remember that last March, there was also a planned transport strike but it was impeded after Malacañang issued an executive order calling off local government laws on traffic ordinances. The good news for PUV (public utility driver) drivers included the effectivity of the single-ticketing system for traffic violators.
Although I belong to the affected commuting public which might get stranded today (worsen by the fact of the heavy rain), I sincerely feel for the transport group. The almost everyday oil increase has taken a toll to every Filipino (who do not work for the oil companies). As a budget officer in our household, among my greatest fears already included running out of LPG (liquid petroleum gasoline) every month. I was lamenting for a few months now how the oil companies stopped informing the public before increasing the oil price. Today, they just increase the price whenever they feel like it.
The strain on the continuous oil increase affects both the commuters and the drivers. In Marikina alone, there’s a decreasing trend for the riding public. Drivers lament that these days, prospective passengers choose walking over riding PUV’s. The public rather walk to save money. For me though, I have another intention. I’ve been walking the stretch now from our house to the terminal because I wanted to try another fast weight loss strategy.
A new lifestyle diet is what I can afford right now unlike a local female politician I know. She’s a pretty middle-aged woman who used to be fat, a little bigger than me actually, but is now lighter. She never hid the fact though that she underwent a liposuction and tummy tacking operations. Well, she’s got money.
It’s raining heavily today. I hope that I would get home safely despite the transport strike and would not find our LPG tank running out of gas. Oh well, worrying maybe blessing after all, who knows, it would probably help me lose weight. That’s me, still trying to find the good things in life amidst the storm. Stay safe and happy today.
